Since I was in the solar industry, until a few years ago, let me point out the few issues Trump may want to consider:
1. Solar power used to be a leftist favorite mantra, but today there are more homes with solar power in conservative Palm Springs CA then in liberal bastions such as Berkley, CA. And this is before we even take the "damn all government" off-the-grid survivalist vote into account

.
2. There is not enough solar manufacturing in the US for a reason. The silicon manufacturing process is very intensive and (ironically) produces quite a bit of environmental waste. China and other countries will beat US manufactured pricing, even with tariffs.
3. Causing an artificial lack of supply of solar panels or silicon feedstock will drive solar energy prices up, and negate years of painstaking work of several states to make solar affordable.
4. Fiddling with portions of the energy industry through interventionism will inevitably affect other parts (and not only oil and gas). Trump may find himself with bigger problems than he has now.
