Schimdt had a terrible record as a campaign operative and ran won of the worst campaigns in recent memory in 2008. Hiring him would be next level stupidity, I mean even Lewandowski has a better record than he does

If there are ~20 candidates though, then talent is going to spread awfully thin.  For many candidates, there may be a choice between hiring campaign people with very little experience at all and hiring experienced people with a bad track record.

L.A. Times profiles Kamala Harris's place in the 2020 Derby.  Some good bits.

Does anybody run for President immediately after losing reelection?

Does anybody run for President immediately after losing reelection?

a. Santorum kind of counts (though there were five years in between his loss and and his presidential campaign announcement), but you can see how well that worked out anyway.

b. As far as I know, Hogan didn't say this would be only after losing re-election.

c. Hogan probably won't lose. In fact, winning might make his chances of running at some time higher. As a Republican in Maryland, he can only go down in state offices.

Santorum specifically doesn't count because he didn't run in 2008, which would have been two years after his loss.

Hogan isn't an underdog, but the climate certainly could drag him to defeat this year, as Maryland doesn't especially like Trump, Jealous should be popular with minority groups in Baltimore, and he's also got a strong running mate in Susan Turnbull.

I really doubt he runs against Trump. I take this as a hint that he's a potential contender in 2024, though.

I'm totally on board with Hogan or whatever random Republican runs a hopeless campaign against Trump. Though it might backfire if the crazies start to think the primary challenge against Trump caused his loss. I actually think a primary challenge against Trump could be decently successful if well-funded and if the primary electorate looks more like the 2015 GOP primary voters than the current batch of voters who affiliate with the GOP. Sure, Trump will win but I can see a primary challenger winning 30-35% of the vote in a lot of states. The funding might be a problem. Despite Trump's war with the Koch's he has been cozying up to the GOP donor class (and they like most of his policies) so the donors might not want to alienate Trump by backing a hopeless challenge.

Warren drops a big hint that her "denials" of presidential interest are fake:

So what if both her and Bernie run? People seem convinced that neither run simultaneously but I wouldn't be surprised if both did.

Unclear. Between her and Bernie only, it would be a tossup.

Democrats salivating over AOC is proof that both parties have a volatile base that would embrace a Trumpian figure.

LOL, is everyone you don't like a Trumpian figure, even if they're a progressive 28 year old Hispanic female bartender?

Nope- I don't like Bernie or most congressional Republicans, but they're not Trumpian figures. What I mean by that are sensationalist figures who just spew bombastic, unrealistic platforms and act like children towards enemies, real and perceived, which imo AOC fits quite well.

I don't think Warren will run if Biden and/or Bernie are running. If she runs I think it's a sign that neither Biden or Bernie are running. Booker, Harris, and Gillibrand, I think two of the three will run. I think we will see a few governors run as well. O'Malley and Hickenlooper are the most likely in my opinion.
