So, now we're gonna have celebrities running for positions everywhere and Republicans electing them? FFS

Ugh, I hope it doesn't come down to that (in either party, I can see this happening on the D side too).

FTR, I voted for Trump the businessman, not Trump the celebrity.

That's sad. For what it's worth, he was a better celebrity than businessman.

Peyton Manning has no need to run for Senate. He can just run for President.

You can imply Trump was a bad businessman once you make more than a billion dollars but not until then

I really do have a negative view of Hollywood/TV stars/singers, etc. as people for the most part, and I think they're even more "swampy" and out of touch than career DC officials. Just because I like their movies, music, or whatever doesn't mean I want them controlling public policy. Honestly, the really weird and disgusting things many of them do in their personal lives is much worse than corruption IMO. Not talking about Peyton Manning in particular, he was a great player and seems like a nice person, but look at the things many other athletes (and singers, and actors) do (like drugs, adultery, theft, etc.).

It's cute that you think Trump was a businessman.

If he wants to run for Senate, he'll jump in against Donnelly in Indiana.

I think I'd like Haslam but I don't think Blackburn would be a terrible senator.

Nope! This is your punishment for the Southern Strategy: Republican Senators, all of whom incredibly frustrating to you. It's the price we paid for flipping Virginia and Vermont

Trump would've made more money with the more than $250 million he inherited from his father if he just invested in regular stocks rather than building all the failure business he did that went bankrupt.

He's a terrible businessman who got lots of money/property from daddy.

Lol, TN was not a southern strategy state by any definition. It was always the closest Deep South State (typically in the 1950's), had a large Republican base in EAST TN and it voted Republican in 1920, 1928, 1952, 1956, and 1960.

Democrats actually gained ground in Tennessee post 1970 and Republicans didn't regain the upper hand until the 1990's.

Would not that untangle him from any lobbyist strings?

Well, Haslam's a fairly decent guy, but no in general I haven't seen that rich politicians are immune from pressure from the business lobby; I suspect Hadlsm's friends hired many of these lobbyists.

But seriously- Corker, Bredesen, HCA's Frist...Karl Dean here in Nashville. I want a "common man"! (Or woman)
