Kind of like the thought of Bush as "worst president I can recall" practically died out with Trump.

LOL, yes of course.  I thought nothing could match Bush, but boy was I wrong.

Until society de-polarizes (and I don't see that happening anytime soon), whoever is the next R president will be even more hated.  And same with the Republicans and whoever the next Dem president is.  And around and around we go.

Policy wise? I'm sure Pence will beat the record.

Not unless it's President Richard Spencer.

...

God help this country if that happens.

I get the feeling that "hail Trump, hail the victory for our people" will become "heil Spencer, heil the victory for our people" if Spencer ever becomes president.

We would need the sort of President in charge when torture chambers and concentration camps appear, and when living standards plummet for all but a well-connected few.

When will there every be a president who gives better reasons to do so than Trump?

Serious question. Probable (or at least hopeful) answer is never.

No. Trump was a perfect storm and yet he still lost by 3 million votes. Despite electing Trump, I have enough faith in the American public that they couldn't possibly elect someone even worse.

So, more likely than not, a Democrat?

As for the question, yes. Politics is largely cyclical. If the US lasts a couple more centuries, there's bound to be a right-winger worse than Trump. The question also fails to clarify "president" - it could be the president of some futuristic successor to the USA.

Maybe, but it would be several decades before that happens. Pence will inherit some Trump hate, but not all of it. By being bland and helping the GOP agenda through congress, they will shed the chaotic reputation, at least for a time, and that will benefit Pence's popularity

Your answer implies that Trump has done anything but justify the disdain most Americans, and not just the left as has been pointed out, have for him. That is incorrect.

To chalk up the dislike most Americans have for Trump as blind partisanship rather than his sub-piss-poor performance and rampant corruption/conflicts of interest is simply disingenuous.

And the same for the right if it's a Democrat.

The seeming toxicity of American political culture means that whoever the incumbent president happens to be will be the devil incarnate to side that they are not on.

Whoever makes Trump look like W or even Reagan...

Who the hell would do that, though? It can always get worse. That much I know!

Hard to imagine a scenario in which someone worse than Trump becomes president and humanity continues to exists.

I can't speak for anyone else, only myself. It does seem like that hatred for Trump is the worst I have seen, although don't forget Nixon. So far as horrible as Trump45 is, he isn't anywhere nearly as bad as 43 was. There is still time. Let's see if he starts a war with NK, then he will be the worst.
He certainly is no Obama, and the pardon of Arpaio, who called his tent cities concentration camps, is a disgrace. Why are Trump supporters here so "in your face" with their support of this mad man?
Hopefully we can survive the next 3-7 years. We somehow survived the dark ages of 43.

I don't think they would hate anyone worse than Trump. With Trump you have policies and someone that has literally no worth in life. With most other people it would just be the politics.

Obviously, there are many on the right who are appalled and embarrassed by this man as well.
So far he still has the support of GOP voters, and he goes out of his way to throw red meat at "his base", and doesn't seem to care if his rhetoric alienates and divides the rest of the country.

No, because it isn't a left/right divide in terms of hatred for Trump.

It's an American/un-American divide.

Trump is a worthless idiot. God help us if the GOP manages to put up someone as ignorant and incompetent again.
