Beat him to a pulp with a bible.

Ironic and appropriate.

I would ignore it, because I'm normal and don't enjoy getting violent whenever I hear something I disagree with.

I'm not a particular fan of Pat Robertson.  But I don't understand why some people hate him so much.

Let him say what he wants about tobacco.  The funny thing is that when liberal anti-tobacco nazis say similar things to Robertson, there's no reaction from the same people who are attacking Robertson.  Clearly, it's the fact that Robertson made this proposal, and not the proposal itself, that many of those attacking Robertson find so objectionable.

Did these same people attacking Robertson's tobacco proposals object when the Clinton administration implemented a strategy to bankrupt the tobacco industry through blockbuster lawsuits against a legal product?  No, most of them supported this abuse of power by an administration they loved.  For this gang, it's not what, but who, that matters.  If Robertson proposes something, it must be bad.  If Clinton does it, it must be good.  Even if it happens to be the same thing.  That's completely illogical, but to be expected when dealing with liberals.

I say all this as a non-smoker who hates cigarettes and smoking.  Still, prohibition will not work, and should not be tried.  People should be discouraged from smoking, smoking in public place should be severely restricted, but cigarettes should remain legal.  That is my opinion, but I don't mind Pat Robertson expressing his.  Unlike the liberals, I don't think Robertson should be prevented from expressing his opinion simply because he's "a religious."

I don't hate him, but he's probably in my 95th percentile of least favourite people after his quotes that "gays and lesbians" and other major threats to the American Way caused September 11th.

I don't mind the tobacco thing, I'm more concerned with the fact that he's praying for Supreme Court Justices to die.

In certain cases, I would agree with him...Smiley  But seriously, he can pray all he wants.  As long as he doesn't take more active measures to bring about their death.

I suppose that's true, but with the crazies that religious fundamentalism can attract, you never know who thinks that he'll get a pat on the shoulder from the ol' man in the sky if they do a bit of God's work for them.

In general, true crazies who actually are seriously dangerous are not the ones who have plenty of media exposure; they're the ones nobody knows about who are secretly plotting in their basement or whatever.

I don't smoke, but I don't like it that the government keeps forcing tobacco companies to pay fine after fine.  The companies are just trying to do business.  If a person wants to smoke, that's OK.

Agree the tobacco companies have been constantly under attack by freedom haters. It's not the governments job to force safety on the populice.

Generally agree...providing someone's cigarette/cigar smoke isn't harming me (ie in a public area...not some private area where I've given assent to smoke and breathe smoke by being there)...gubment should stop trying to protect people from themselves.

I agree. Jerry could make it a threesome, but now we're getting into "disgusting" territory.

You see, that's exactly the thing. When the left says things like that no one cares, because we know they have freedom anyways. But when a so called conservative says things like this, it is cause for alarm. Edmund Burke must be turning on his grave.

I find it hard to believe he wants to make tobacco illegal.  It's too much of a good thing (populism).  Protecting people and keeping the public healthy is a noble goal, but when basic freedoms like smoking a cigarette are under threat, that's really taking the whole idea too far.

Actually Robertson's latest inanity has an up side.

From now on, when any lefty advocates attacks on smoking, I'll just just tell them I'm suprised they are following the Falwell line.  It may get some of them to rethink their attacks.
