Yes, the title was largely inspired by Phil's topic. Smiley

The purpose of this topic is to have people do what I think would be kind of interesting: describe your opposite.  No specific people; I'm talking about ideology and personality.  What would your opposite believe and do?  The more specific, the better.  The beliefs of your opposite need not make any coherent sense - they just have to be the complete polar opposite of what you believe.  On this note, given that seriousness is overrated, humorous descriptions are encouraged. Smiley

On economic matters, my opposite would be more or less a communist, but with a bunch of strange quirks.  The person would favor a complete government takeover of all private enterprise, but would support leaving public goods like national security and road maintenance up to private companies.

On social matters, my opposite would think that homosexuals are evil and that all non-heterosexual marriage should be banned.  My opposite would strongly oppose abortion in the first trimester because the person feels that abortion is murder in God's eyes, but would support it in all cases at any time after that because a woman should be free to choose to abort once the baby starts showing some sign of life.  My opposite would heavily favor affirmative action, believing that any minority who applies for a job should immediately be given the position, and that white people are evil and should be banned from being employed.

In argument style, my opposite would look down on anyone who disagrees, and would heavily frown upon anyone who researches things in discussions, feeling that it's much more manly to just rush into an argument and spout angry, nonsensical, and heavily ideological words.  If anyone attempted to prove something that my political opposite didn't want to be true, then the person would simply ignore all of the proof, asserting that everyone already agrees that what he says is true, and that those who disagree are obviously mentally deficient and quite possibly homosexual.

Finally, with regards to his personal life, my opposite's entire life would revolve around sex, drugs, and alcohol.  He would be a bold, strong figure with a penchant for aggressiveness, and would be incapable of getting along with everyone.  However, he would be a complete technophobe, and would believe that computers are a tool of the devil, and that anyone who uses them should be executed.

That's mine.  Now it's your turn.

hmmm.....   My evil twin.

Highly bitter and cynical, he considers himself a social darwinist and a nilist.   People are after all stupid, greedy and evil - thus it is vital to look out only for numero uno, crush anyone who gets in your way, and yield only to those who oppress others.   Despite this he hates himself yet sees himself as  better than all the other dumb and greedy people out there.

He believes highly in astrology, superstition, and creationism (despite being a dogmatic athiest).  Decisions are never based on rational thought, nor is intuition or 'feeling' taken into account.   His life is totally random in nature.

Politically, he loves George Bush, likes bin laden, and owns everything ever written by Ann Coulter.   Despite this he really doesn't care much about politics.   Though he loves the rigorous disipline of the millitary, he's not to fond of their sense of honor and integrety.   He'd rather kill women, children, and other civilians, would only be slightly hesitant to kill enemy combatants, and wouldn't want any terrorists to die.

He used to be a Democrat, but they got too nice and too moderate for his liking, so he left.

Not that it matters.  He never votes.

My opposite would be a walter mitty type of person that couldn't give two shits about anyone else and supports things like abortion and the death penalty.

hey, didn't Gabu say don't name names?

Anyways, my opposite would be someone who, just, in general wants to put the government in control of our lives.  Their stongest issue would be confiscating guns from every American.  They'd want to tax the heck out of me, and give me back what the government thought was a good return on services and goods.  They'd want business to be run by the state.  They'd want me to have a V-chip scanning device, a national ID card, a camera in my home and I can only have sex with who they want me to have sex with.  In addition to all of this, our country would be constantly going to war, favoring other countries, trying to decide what policy the other countries should have and enlisting many of our youth in a draft to fight this war.

What's scary is this sound like in the next 50 years, by the way things are going in general, it could happen.

For me, it's either Cosmo Kramer or Al. But Killerpollo on economic issues, and Brandon H on Social Issues.

In response to M&C, just cause someone's your opposite, doesn't mean you can't like them, or at least respect them.

did I imply dislike or disrespect?  I thought I was just making a point-although perhaps it was a bit biased.

Nah, just pointing out that not ALL discussion of other forum-goers is always a bad thing (though a lot of times, admittedly, it turns volatile).

This thread seems to have stayed civil so far.

My opposite is your run-of-the-mill pinko. He marches for abortion and gay rights and hurls himself in front of Israeli bulldozers which are demolishing terrorist meeting places.  He is an atheist and nonchalantly calls all creationists idiots. He makes stupid comments about Bush being an idiot and intending to destroy the world with his evil intervetionism. He vows to legalize everything except guns, religious expression, and freedom of speech for all with a politcal compasss score > -5,-5. He runs a labor union and kills all anti-union activists, advocates a 90% income tax for all families who make a sum of $50,000 or more. He believes in a seizure of a ll security and internationallly-utilized funds and their use for promoting reverse affirmative action. He is 50 and lives in San Fransisco next to an abortion clinic and a terrorist-funding dentistry practice with his "partner."

A communist/collectivist government advocate who is fanatically religious and Taliban-level social conservative. He's a pessimist who believes people can't be trusted to run their own lives, and they need to dedicate themselves to other people entirely. Basically a complete and total tyrant.

mine's a gay but homophobic, overweight, hermaphroditic, black, fanatically observant jew or muslim or christian or hindu with rich parents and poor eyesight who loves to watch professional wrestling but fears kayaking in the open ocean.  He's also a conservative Democrat.

yeah, some of it was a stretch.  I'm not underweight either.  But I'm not sure what the opposite of "hermaphroditic" or "medium build" is.  I'm quite sure I'm white, agnostic, come from poor folk, have good eyesight, etc.  Well you get the point.  But on a serious note, I think "Conservative Democrat" is potentially the most concise description of my exact opposite, though.  With Liberal Democrats and Conservative Republicans I have some empathy, since in each case they're at least batting .500, but the Conservative Democrat has a different general philosophy and a different partisan loyalty.  No overlap there.

Conservative Democrat causes a reaction in my mind which makes me think, "populist," and liberal Republican invokes the term, "libertarian."

funny that, since libertarians are further right, on the left-right scale, than republicans.  Probably that's because the term "liberal" when applied to Democrats refers to the Left/Right considerations but the term "liberal" when applied to Republicans almost never does, but rather to the Up/Down considerations.  Similarly with the term "conservative"  In any case, someone who is ever-so-slightly economically conservative and very socially authoritarian and without a deep sense of abject nationalism and who's anti-Bush (and there are many like that, both inside and outside this forum) pretty much complement me on all counts, and by degree, since I usually fall a tad left of center on the left/right scales of these tests and way down on the up/down scale.  And those who fit my "opposite", in the terms I put forth, are almost always self-described "Conservative Democrats."

Hm.

My political opposite would base her political analyses on collective entities and completely ignore indiviuals. She would be fervently anti-religious, highly cynical about our world and the people in it, but yet utopical, believing in a future paradise. She would also be very anti-American and anti-nationalist supporting a world government and oppose traditionalism in every form, instead beliving in a root-less society based on her personal utopia. This utopia would most likely resemble a Fascist state, but with extended goverment control of the economy and NO WRITTEN LAWS. Conflicts would be resolved by force or by the whim of the government.
