In 1968, Hubert Humphrey wins the presidency in a narrow triumph over Richard Nixon.
In 1972, he runs for re-election despite declining health. Who wins the Republican Nomination? Who wins the General Election? Discuss with maps

Depends on how he handles Vietnam and how prevalent his health issues are. I believe he showed signs of cancer as early as the late 60s, so its possible he might've passed sooner due to the stress of the presidency, so I'll do two maps for him winning/losing.

Winning:

274-264

Losing:

346-192

If he dies before 1972:

284: President Edmund Muskie/Vice President Stuart Symington - 49.1%
208: Governor Ronald Reagan/Senator Edward Brooke - 40.6%
46: Representative John G. Schmitz/Governor Lester Maddox - 8.2%
Others - 2.1%

If he lives to 1972:

284: Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker/NYC Mayor John Lindsay - 48.2%
166: President Hubert Humphrey/Secretary of State Sargent Shriver - 39.1%
88: Senator Strom Thurmond/Governor Cliff Finch - 9.7%
Others - 3.0%
