Barbara
November 7th, 2017

Anxiety was setting in. Barbara Comstock's ally, Ed Gillespie, was the Republican nominee for governor, against former Congressman Tom Perriello. To Barbara, not only was this race important as the man elected would have a major say in her district's 2020 redistricting, it would also reveal if Virginia was truly back to being a Republican state or if Bernie was a uniquely bad candidate.

Unfortunately,  polling for the gubernatorial race was incredibly scattered, with many pollsters showing wide leads for both candidates, always with large amounts of undecided voters. The two camps went into election night effectively blind.

But with Trump sitting at 22% approvals, very few Republicans were optimistic.

Slowly, the results began to pour in.

F**k. Looks like those Perriello polls were right...

Results (with messed up colors, yay!)
Governor

Tom Perriello - 58.64%

Ed Gillespie - 39.77%

Lieutenant Governor
Justin Fairfax - 54.23%

Jill Vogel - 45.77%

Attorney General
Mark Herring (i) - 64.64%

John Adams - 35.36%

House of Delegates

Democratic Party - 62 (+28(!!!))

Republican Party - 38 (-28)
Democrats gained the following districts: 2, 10, 12, 13, 14, 21, 28, 31, 32, 40, 42, 50, 51, 54, 60, 62, 67, 68, 72, 73, 76, 83, 84, 85, 88, 91, 94, and 100, while holding all of their districts.

It was nearing 10 PM in Alexandria. The results have already been called, and it was seen that Democrats swept everything from the top of the ticket to the bottom. Barbara went to the Gillespie watch party to speak to the distraught and disappointed supporters still in the convention hall.

"My fellow Virginians, we've shown the world that democracy is still strong in our state. I have called and congratulated Mr. Perriello, Mr. Faifax, and Mr. Herring on their successes. I've also spoken to my friend Ed, and he has conceded the race, despite a strong campaign in the face of difficulty.

Unfortunately, and it is with a heavy heart that I must say this, this term will be my last in Congress. I will not seek reelection in 2018. I have cherished this opportunity to represent Virginia's 10th in Congress, and I will continue to work with Republicans in Northern Virginia for years to come. It won't be in Congress, however."

Kim
November 7th, 2017

Kim Gwahdahnoh knew she was doomed, but she had to make the best attempt she could to minimize her loss so that Democrats won't expand their hold on the state legislature.

Pretty tough job for someone with that fat motherf**ker around her neck like an albatross.

It's difficult to discern which fat motherf**ker she was referring to - both President Trump and Governor Christie had awful approvals. Trump was at 22% nationally, but much closer to 15% in New Jersey. Chris Christie, however, was sitting with approvals squarely at 7%.

Her opponent was the former Ambassador to Germany, Phil Murphy–

What, did that idiot get lost on his way to Berlin?

Guadagno had chosen her primary opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, as her running mate in an effort to unite the party. But of course, this way too little, too late.

In fact, the whole election was too little, too late.

Governor

Phil Murphy / Sheila Oliver - 70.98%
Kim Guadagno / Jack Ciattarelli - 27.75%

State Senate

Democratic Party - 27 (+3)
Republican Party - 13 (-3)

General Assembly

Democratic Party - 59 (+7)
Republican Party - 21 (-7)

Rest in peace, the NJ GOP.

Jesus, Guadagno loses Sussex County? That's pretty brutal.

Also, good to see Kean survives 2017 (he's a family friend, so I'm inclined to like him more than most Republicans)

I hope my maps are at least realistic for that matchup of 71-28.

Christie's approvals drop even more from real life due to his interrogation in front of the Senate when he was nominated (and rejected) for Attorney General. That's why his approvals are comparable to Francois Hollande.

Hillary
November 7th, 2017

Hillary was leaving her home in Chappaqua to go to the watch party of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio in Brooklyn. After her loss in the presidential primaries, some pundits suggested that Clinton could run for mayor of New York in 2017.

Of course, that was ridiculous.

When she was pressed by reporters on if she's running, she responded, "I am 100% behind Mayor de Blasio. I hope all Democrats will support him come November."

That endorsement earned Clinton an invitation to de Blasio's election watch party.

As she arrived in Park Slope, she was ambushed by reporters, but just smiled and waved. The cold November air meant everyone's breath was condensed in the air around them.

She hugged de Blasio, a warm welcome.

"Let's watch some results!"

Mayor

Bill de Blasio (D-WP-G) - 70.22%

Nicole Malliotakis (R-C) - 20.02%
Bo Dietl (I) - 7.42%
Sal Albanese (Ref) - 2.03%

Champagne was popped, balloons were dropped, and everyone was celebrating. Everyone knew de Blasio was going to win, but it was always reassuring when things went according to plan.

Hillary was minding her own business when a woman walked up to her.

"Madame Secretary, there are some people here who want to talk to you."

What is she on about?

"Okay, should I come with you?"

"Yes, just follow me."

Hillary was lead into the basement of de Blasio's campaign office, a dark space made even darker by the November evening.

"Good evening, Madame Secretary. You don't have to respond, just listen. We don't have much time, so excuse our bluntness.

We don't like Andrew, as you know, and we're afraid that if he runs in 2020, he'd win the primary and then go on to lose the Presidency. We know that Trump personally has compromising information on Andrew. And really, there's only one thing we can do to prevent that."

"Do you want me to talk to him and dissuade him from running? I'm afraid I don't have much pull with the Governor."

"No, Hillary. We don't want to you to talk to him, we want you to run against him. In 2018. A primary loss by an incumbent Governor is too embarrassing of a launchpad for President; it'll kill his ambitions.

We've already done some polling. You're leading him, 53%-40% in a hypothetical primary."

Sh*t. Are these guys for real?

"How would you like to serve your country one more time?"

Seriously though nothing would trigger Trump more than Hillary becoming a popular governor of Trump's home state.
