Hillary wins the 2008 nomination and picks Barack Obama as her running mate. After victory over John McCain, the Clinton/Obama ticket successfully runs for reelection in 2012 against Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

While almost all events during 2009-2016 remain the same, Obama runs again in 2016 and defeats Bernard Sanders in the Democratic primary. He faces the Donald on November 8, 2016. What happens?

The nation is shocked by how close the election is on November 8, despite polls showing a constant lead for Obama throughout the campaign. Mr. Trump spent the next few months alleging that the results in Pennsylvania and Omaha were rigged, and that Evan McMullin lost the election for him by taking Republican votes away in Utah.

Give Utah, and the Presidency to Trump. If America didn't vote for a black man in 2008 (Obama), then they probably wouldn't vote for one in 2016.

That's somewhat nonsensical.

I doubt Hillary was gonna pick Obama; she seemed pretty set on Evan Bayh.

Trump
Obama

Hillary would probably drag Obama down baggage wise by this point. All the Midwest focus (which would still see Ohio not quite stay to save the day) would come at the cost of New Hampshire and Nevada.

Even the black vote flipping NC wouldn't pull it off.

Why is Obama losing Nevada in these scenarios?

Why is Obama losing Nevada in these scenarios?

Latino turnout is probably low enough to be useless against the 'Burbs of Vegas and Reno, and the Cliven Bundy types and Olde Time CA retirees would be even more energized against Obama than with Hillary.

Oh and probably the same factors that cost Kerry and Gore the state against Dubya too.

You guys are underestimating how much baggage specific to Clinton hurt her. The "fundamentals" were pointing to a Dem victory.

Obama- 307
Trump- 231
