My parents must still work to support our family, so no, I am a poor.

Half and half.

I own a home and a good number of investments.

But I still have to work.

That's the case with most Americans.  The old black and white distinctions are generally a thing of the past.

My mom doesn't have to work actually. So yes, I'm a member of the 'owning class'.

Well, welfare is just public sector funds being distributed.

Not a return on capital.

The owning class defined by opebo is anyone who must work rather than simply life on returning capital from investments.

opebo has not the slightest conception of the way the world works.  Assuming he is who he says he is, the money his family has has really handicapped him.  That's what often happens to the offspring of the "owning class" and that explains why they don't remain part of the "owning class" for very long.

Are 5 people from this forum really part of the owning class?

Given that only one of them is opebo, if you put a poll option entitled "sandcastle with a moat", the other four likely would have voted for that.

Actually I'm more of a hanger-on to the owning class, as are most heirs apparent.  But assuming I eventually do inherit, I will remain a member of the owning class till the day I die.

I have never mentioned any hatred of the owning class.  I have mentioned hatred of intolerants.. two very different groups.  Why shouldn't the owning class wish to monopolize power?  One can hardly blame them.  However one can jeer at the poor for not realizing what is going on.

Congratulations on being a member of the owning class.

Just curious, how did your parents and/or family make their money? Investments? Real estate? Family business? Were your parents heirs to the owning class or did they move up into the owning class?

no im not a member of thw 'owner' class..

but i dont see the world the way opebo and hugo chavez see things.

i think it is more accurate to divide people  into either the 'lender' or 'borrower' groups.

my assets, at present, outnumber my liabilities.  technically speaking, that would make me a 'lender'

that is one reason people like me actually like seeing interest rates increased.

So, in other words you are a poor. After all, if your parents suddenly decide to disinherit you, you'll be ed, right?

I'd say I'm upper-middle class.  Though technically my family might be considered upper class, I was raised in a thrifty household.  We did not buy a CD player until 1996 and did not have cable until then either.  We never buy new cars and they are usually five or six years old when we buy them.  We don't have any digital cameras and believe in using film only.  I didn't get a cell phone until the spring of my senior year in high school.

According to opebo, there is no such thing anymore. You are either 'a poor' or a member of the owning class.

despite opebo's constant patronizing of workers, he is probably much closer to becoming 'a poor' than most of us.

ive heard him mention that he 'blows' most of his money.

if his parents leave him out of the inheritance, what does he have?  nothing.

Exactly, a worker who loses his job at least has a marketable job skill in most cases, whereas opebo has nothing that anyone would be willing to pay for.
