I used Kevin Hayes Wilson's website to try to combine counties into a new state and see if I could get a tied result for the 2012 election. I also tried to make the state as large as possible.
Harris County, Texas (with its super close 2012 result) was a good place to start. After that, I added the following counties:
Petroleum, Montana
Ouray, Colorado
Hinsdale, Colorado
San Juan, Colorado
Harding, New Mexico
Roberts, Texas
Foard, Texas
King, Texas
Borden, Texas
Upton, Texas
Loving, Texas
Culberson, Texas
La Salle, Texas
Issaquena, Mississippi
Conecuh, Alabama
McCormick, South Carolina
Gates, North Carolina

Ended up tying with Obama and Romney getting 599,380 votes each. Took a while to get this! I wonder if anyone else can get a larger tie!
Kind of random, I know, but figured I'd share it here since it took almost an hour to get a tie!
