Who would be Maryland Representative John Delaney's vice presidential running mate if he wins the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination? Delaney is a white male in the Acela corridor, a Northeasterner, does he reinforce by picking a fellow Northeasterner like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, or Cory Booker, or does he go for regional and ethnic balance?

I'd say go with Sen. Tammy Baldwin (WI), as a female, progressive Senator currently serving as Secretary of the Senate Democratic Conference as well as being from a state and area that voted for Trump in 2016.

Yeah because Democrats are too racist and stupid to put policy ahead of identity politics.

I'm thinking Kamala Harris as he can make the argument that his VP is from the most populous state and the most populous democratic state in the country. Otherwise possibly Roy Cooper. He's a popular governor from a swing state that generally leans republican that could be flipped with Roy Cooper on the ticket. I think Cooper will be on everyone's short list for the democratic ticket in 2020

Klobuchar. All of Baldwin's positives, with none of her negatives (VA scandal, single, lesbian, replaced by Walker). Plus Klobuchar, while exceptionally boring, is much more charismatic and seemingly approachable than Baldwin.

That's a positive.

Not in today's America. Her being lesbian is "identity politics".

Maybe it has something to do with the constant under representation of females and minorities in politics?

You do realize that other than that community organizer that beat you twice, Democrats have had exclusively white people on the ticket since... forever?

Booker.

Delaney needs someone like Booker who is younger and more engaging, has some senate experience, and it would be good for Booker to have on his resume for a future presidential run.

Mark Zuckerberg. Age and geographical ticket balance. And different background. LOL.

Serious answer, though I highly doubt the dude will make it to the nomination (he's probably dropped-out before the primaries even begin): Catherine Cortez-Masto would fit well. Others might be Kamala Harris, Martin Heinrich or Cory Booker.

I don't recall Hillary Clinton being a white male.

A guy like Delaney could never take a "star" like Sanders or Warren, or even Booker.   The VP would overshadow the Presidential nominee, and that would be like going to a restaurant where folks think that the waiter is a better cook than the chef.

A guy like Delaney would need to pick a VP who was old (over 70) with the ability to play the role of the "wise man" adviser.  In that vein, someone like a John Salazar or a Steve Beshear would be good; they'd appear to be seasoned advisers who wouldn't overshadow the top dog.

Kamala Harris on Delaney's ticket would probably work best, balancing 1. the coasts, 2. their genders, 3. their races, 4. their places on the political spectrum (Harris further to the left and Delaney closer to the center), and 5. their personal experience (Harris being a Senator, former Atty-Gen, and former DA; Delaney being a Rep and formerly a businessman). The only think that would make it perfect is if they were from different generations, but alas, she and he are 52 and 54, respectively.
