Since Cory Booker's marijuana legalization debacle, which will kill his support among the elderly, I consider Zuckerberg the most likely 2020 Democratic nominee at this point.

People, the biggest reason Hillary lost in 2016 was due to one thing: the phony email scandal. That won't be a problem with Zuckerberg, whom millions of Americans trust to keep their personal information secure. If there's one thing we can guarantee about Zuckerberg, it's that his emails won't be hacked by the Russians, or anyone else for that matter. The idea that he's a horrible candidate just screams "baseless" at me.

'But Trump' is not a legitimate explanation of how any random celebrity/businessman could win. Zuckerberg is an out of touch billionaire with no personal appeal

I wouldn't say Mark Zuckerberg is a Democratic Donald Trump. I'd say he's more the Democratic Mitt Romney, with his business being in things people actually care about in their daily lives instead of whatever "private equity" is. Like Mitt Romney, Mark Zuckerberg will inevitably have much better relations with the party establishment than Donald Trump. Or perhaps the Democratic Macron, or a second Obama. In any case, all models are wrong, all analogies are bad. Even Mitt Romney would have beaten Obama had the latter had an under 40% approval rating at election time. And Trump has never shown the ability to have an adequate approval rating, which matters a lot more to incumbents than challengers.

That's true. And just like Mitt Romney, Zuckerberg would lose the PV by 4 points and hand Trump or Pence 320+ electoral votes.
You're ignoring demographics, which will continue to favor the Democratic party, especially in states like Arizona, North Carolina, and Florida. There's no reason for Zuckerberg to lose support among African-Americans, Hispanics, the college-educated, and single women relative to Hillary Clinton.

I don't see many people wanting to vote for another non-politician after this latest debacle.

Uh, yes, he will lose support among the highlighted groups. Do you really think that these people, who have worse-than-average economic circumstances, will turn out more for a billionaire CEO?

The Republican base is incredibly dumb, racist & in general prone to manipulation & are living in an alternate world. The Democratic base in comparison is inclusive, compassionate, educated, liberal, skeptical, etc.

It is possible for a con man to win the GOP nomination but the Dem primary? I doubt it, especially now when the base has shifted sharply left !

Why? We definitely need more techies in Washington to deal with the ever-growing impact of technology in our country. A techie president would actually be awesome, in my opinion.

We just don't need more billionaires in the White House.

I can't believe there are people dumb enough to actually think this guy is a front runner. He's not a popular guy whatsoever. He has a flat personality and no charisma. Also Hillary didn't just lose because of the fake email scandal. She lost because of a her weakness as a candidate and her piss poor campaign strategy. As I've said a million times, if Bill Clinton gives you campaigning advice you take it, not laugh at him. Mark Zuckerberg is actually a worse candidate than Hillary. His literal claim to fame is screwing a bunch of people over in the creation of Facebook. He's the candidate only a beltwayer could love.

I don't think he stands a serious chance. What terrifies me is the prospect of him dumping tens or even hundreds of millions of his own money into the primary, and making what's already going to be pretty nasty that much more brutal.

No, she lost because she was a bad candidate who most of the country disliked. She is one of the worst candidates the party has ever fielded. Only Mondale and Dukakis are worse.

Trump has massive appeal to the obscene, paranoid, nationalistic, nouveau-riche white trash that forms the core spirit of the Republican party voter base, which is what allowed him to run away with the primary. Zuck has zero of the same appeal to the Democratic party core. Comparing the two is apples and oranges.
