Don't see why top Dems would "despise" Moulton any more than the likes of Gabbard.

Tulsi really could've been a serious contender for 2020, she did herself in with the Assad stuff. Moulton is playing his cards right.

What's so great about Moulton? "There’s simply no reason for a civilian to own a military-style assault weapon. It’s no different than why we outlaw civilian ownership of rockets and landmines." is going to come back to haunt him.

I would certainly be much more open to Moulton than Gabbard.

And I think Moulton seems pretty electable too. Military service, some good comments about him from the other side of the aisle, can say that he isn't afraid to challenge the "establishment" or whatever. Obviously it's a little early to say whether someone is electable or not when he's not a very well-known figure yet, but still.

Why would this come back to haunt him? He's a captain in the USMC, I think he might know a thing or two about guns

They don't care. There are millions of assault weapons owners in the U.S. and other gun owners who would feel alienated from him based on this. Many of them might otherwise vote Democratic.

But it's not like he's unique among Democrats for this stance - this relatively standard Democratic policy, no? And I agree that his military service might help him convince some voters that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to guns.

Obama openly called for an AWB in both of his runs and did fine, this is not a new stance for Dems.

The positions of most Democrats on this are terrible, but some are smart enough not to talk about it.

Whew, three people are jumping down my throat on this. I'm sorry, but you're all wrong, and I'm right. Obama didn't emphasize the AWB in his campaigns at all. It's an issue the Democrats should drop.

Is that why so many people here are so vociferously anti-Gabbard? I've been wondering.

Is that why so many people here are so virulently anti-Gabbard? I've been wondering.

That's a big part of it. She also seems to be too friendly to conservative nationalist parties in India and their Islamaphobia (she refused to sign on to some resolution that called out India for human rights violations, or something along those lines, partially/mostly against Muslims), her father was infamously homophobic and she herself was very anti-LGBT (not just not in favor of gay marriage, like, say, Clinton, but very vocally homophobic) until recently, she gained conservative support after she was angry that Obama refused to say the phrase "radical Islamic terrorism", some say she tries to create an image of dovishness but is actually quite hawkish,  and she and her family apparently might have ties to some Hawaiian cult? I don't know the details on the last part

I may be slightly off on the details of any of these, but there's a good Jacobin article basically making the case for liberals to stand  against her. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these charges, I read that article a while ago.
