Then Trump will win 2/3 of the white vote, since race relations have hit rock bottom under Obama and the top black candidates are corporate democrats like Booker and Harris.

I hate to admit it, but you are right.

Trump won 59% of the white vote last year, a point less than Romney. The last time a Republican won 66% of the white vote was Reagan's 17 point landslide win in 1984. Trump doesn't have the political know how to garner anywhere close to 66% of white voters.

Yea but open identity politics & selecting people based on race will help Trump with white people on the fence who don't have a positive view about affirmative action.

He won't get 2/3rd of the white vote but a black person should be selected because of their ability not colour of their skin. This is in some way reverse racism & it is easy for GOP to polarize (with or without Trump) & it is indefensible from Dems & Dems will have no moral authority to cry about racism again !

The Voting Rights Act and insistence on putting most Black voters in minority majority districts has really hurt the Democratic Party's (and the Black community's) ability to develop candidate's who can appeal to voters outside their own ethnic group.

Not that a Black politician representing a Black majority district COULDN'T campaign on universalist policies that would appeal to people of other races, they just never need to, so they don't.

It's basically taken the total collapse of urban White populations to force the development of Black candidates with cross racial appeal like Obama, Booker, and Patrick and even they only really appeal to the rump urban White population of super wealthy high rise residents.
