Donald Trump won Independents in 2016.
Who do you expect they'll vote for ?
What will be their impact ?

Unless he wins in 35-40 state landslide, I expect him to lose them, even if by 1 or something.

That's how it was in 2004. Maybe Trump will win the popular vote by like 1, and win Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire and Maine...but he will only do that because as many or more of the vote as Democrats do and win the crossover vote by like 3:2. ..but still he will lose Independents.

Romney won them by 5 in 2012

I would assume if Trump wins or looses narrowly he wins independents. If he preforms similarly of worse then McCain then the Democrat nominee wins independents.

I want to say against Trump, but a significant portion of "independents" are Republicans who don't call themselves Republicans because they're too ashamed.

Coraxion's full of it, but most independents do have a partisan preference. And as with actual partisans, among Independents, more have Democratic preferences. The amount of truly independent voters without any preference is still small.

Oh, that has been my experience as well, and I'd believe that in a heartbeat.  The "they're too ashamed" to admit they're Republicans part was what I requested a source to. Smiley

I think you're referring to many Democrats, especially after DWS's stunt.

It must suck to be part of the undemocratic Democratic Party

Trump's performance among independents also depends on the Democratic nominee. He'll perform better with them if the Dems nominate someone like Warren.

If conditions stay the way they are, and they probably will considering Trump's unwillingness to change,  Trump will likely lose independents by a lot.

Observation. But I see I was wrong.
