Let me ask all of you: why should the government restrict children's access to movies based on MPAA ratings in the first place? It strikes me as censorship; in any event, the MPAA is not a government organization.

Censorship means they can't put the movie out at all.  Restrictions, though they don't work, are simply intended to reinforce parental control.

It bothers me to see the term censorship misused, and I imagine you're picking it up from people in the entertainment industry who call any type of rating system for the filth that they put out censorship.  There's nothing wrong, and a lot right, with trying to protect impressionable children from what is being put out by Hollywood.

This doesn't make sense. What harm can come from smoking marjuana. It has very similar effects to alcohol except your happier, hungrier, and can still carry a conversation.

Dude, I just don't favor drug legalization.  I know the arguments for legalizing marijuana.  Maybe they have some merit.  But I have seen so many lives ruined by drugs that I just can't bring myself to accept it.

Of course, I've seen many lives ruined by alcohol too, but it seems that more people can control their drinking without too many ill effects.  Once people get into certain drugs, they do things that are simply unconscionable.  I recognize that marijuana itself is not one of these drugs, but overall it has bad effects, and I can't see the point of encouraging the spreading of an already bad problem.

No, I would say that any form of restriction is censorship.

I think that it is quite well accepted that physiologically Marijuana is not that dangerous a drug (unless a VERY heavy user)

However, most objection is that once one experiments with Marijuana, it is used as a stepping drug if you will, for harsher drugs. I remember back in high school (and I was at a more affluent school) that there were parties I'd go to where people would be smoking marijuana, and on occassion lines of coke etc. Similarly when I was in college (and I haven't been out of college long) the same applied.

If Marijuana was legalised I belive we would see an increase in use of really bad drugs such as cocaine, ecstacy and GOD FORBID meth.

Before anyone calls me crazy for saying 14 for a driver's license, let me point out that is the actual age in North Dakota. (it's actually 14 and 6 months because you must have had a learner's permit for 6 months and you can get that at 14, but that's just neccesary to meet a requirement, not a legal restriction.) But I didn't get my license until I was 15.

3 no age although any responsible parent wouldn't allow anyone under 13 to drink Red Bull, 16 for 2,4,9, and 11, 18 for the rest.

edit-no draft, but voluntary service in the military should be 18+
