     I've had more than one pair of pants split in the seat due to my propensity to sit Indian style, and to contradict the gender theorists who would claim that I am just asserting my masculinity or some such, I do it even more in the privacy of my living room. Sitting with your legs apart is just way more comfortable. As long as you aren't blocking empty seats, who care?

Too big of a deal is made out of it by both sides. Of course, if you're intentionally taking up far too much space, then you're a douche, but I don't think it's much of a real world issue.
