If that's a MESSER internal, wow. Rokita is doing better than I imagined.

I may switch my endorsement to Rokita. Messer seems to be doing terrible, and seems like a disaster. I wonder what the general election polls look like, BTW (if they did any).

If I had to guess, they probably conducted general election match-ups, but didn't show the results because it didn't look good for them.

Still don't see why Messer is mulling a run. He clearly has inside track to leadership, w/ Patrick McHenry

He has won statewide before, which could explain some of it.

He's very young, his seat is safe, and he's the #5-ranking member of the House. If he just stays I think he has a solid path to at least Majority Leader, if not Speaker. Rokita is really looking like the much better bet, honestly. He's already won statewide as Secretary of State, and Messer is honestly at that point where just staying in the lower chamber is the better path forward.

Messer has a lot of baggage. We need a better candidate.

Yeah, exactly. Unless he expects Ryan/McCarthy to stick around forever, this doesn't make much sense to me

McMorris Rodgers is (at least perceived as) moderate, so she'd have a tough time winning over the Freedom Caucus-type people, and if McCarthy runs for Speaker again, expect his second run to be as successful as his first. I'd say Scalise likely succeeds Ryan as GOP Leader, and then Messer can move up if he stays, and then Messer succeeds Scalise.

I think we now know why Messer hasn't declared his candidacy yet. Honestly, I could see him pulling a Wagner at this point.
