Jimmy Carter can take Georgia and North Carolina which have been trending Democrat for some time now and Mondale's Midwestern roots will help them carry that region back from Trump.

Discuss with maps.

Amped up Carter '76 numbers to '16 standards and pitted them against Trump '16 numbers. The result:

Carter's such a sweet person. This is how the map should look.

This is a more realistic map. I think it's entirely possible that Carter wins in this scenario if most voters aren't concerned with his age.

The results would probably be Obama 2012+ North Carolina, Georgia (obviously), and South Carolina.

Sure, all they need is one campaign slogan: 1980 was a mistake, undo neoliberalism. Wow, you actually thought of a good ticket. Too bad they won't run and would be attacked as too old.

As much as I like Jimmy Carter, he's definitely done. Although, it'd be amazing if he ran for Governor of Georgia in 2018.

Carter/Mondale: 458 EVs 57% PV
Trump/Pence: 80 EVs 36% PV
McMullin/Amash: 0 EVs 6% PV
Carter is just too loveable. The only reason he doesn't sweep the entire South is because the electorate is way too racially polarized.

Despite me liking Carter, I think we are all forgetting that most of America remembers Carter as a wet blanket of a president, succeeded by Glorious Macho Reagan Who Defeated The Commies and Liberals (Who Are Actually The Same)

I want Carter to find the fountain of youth and actually do this.

Half of America has no memory of President Carter as anything but a guy in a recent history book.

Now I feel old.

Funny enough, if Jimmy Carter was elected governor of Georgia 6 years ago and Mondale was elected Senator 12 years ago (ala 1976), this would probably be a winning ticket, maybe even a landslide ticket. A southern Christian governor with liberal principles and a solid union Democrat from Minnesota? That would crush Trump.
