A political campaign soliciting this type of service from a foreign national is technically illegal.

Man checking on Twitter and other social media Trumpers are really trying to somehow make Jr a hero for being transparent. An that right there is why they chose Trump cause they now the RW will twist itself into a pretzel to defend "their side" no matter how blantenly bad

Good grief.  He only released the emails because he knew the Times was about to do so.

Plus of course the e-mails confirm that, contrary to the spin being put about, there was absolutely no crime committed.
Pete you aren't American so you are probably unaware that intent is a crime here

Intent to do what? Gather opposition research from a foreigner. That isn't a crime.

Campaign finance laws forbid the solicitation of anything of value from a foreign national.    Actually it is a crime.

Kushner's influence has diminished after the Comey firing. Bannon took on Kushner against everyone's advice and won. Bannon's back in favor, and expect his role to grow. Bannon is a classic "son of a b****" that you want in your corner when the temperature rises and everyone else runs for cover.

I will add regarding legality that it probably depends on what was actually exchanged, which we do not know. As far as we know, there may have been nothing exchanged and the collusion attempt failed. Talking is not something of value.

I don't think it matters, the email shows intent.

"Information" is a rather vague word. I think the idea that speech is a "thing of value" is quite a stretch. The emails do open the door to the possibility that something of tangible value was exchanged, though. Certainly, if services such as information gathering were offered to and accepted by the campaign, that would be something of value.

Opposition research (or in this case...hacked emails...) are most definitely a thing of value.   And Don Jr's response of "I love it" is really all you need to show intent.  Whether or not they acquired what they sought is pretty redundant.

Don Jr. on Hannity playing down the Russia meetings as just a favor he did for an acquaintance. Says that nothing substantive happened in the 20-minute meeting and he never told his father about it because it wasn't important.

Considering Trump announced a "big speech" on Hillary Clinton's misdeeds just hours after the meeting was confirmed, it sounds like junior is lying (not very surprising here)

He's a good son. Shame his father wouldn't do the same for him if their roles were reversed. (not that I'm endorsing "family over country")

You got to be a fool to believe that trump sr did not know about the meeting.
There is no doubt in my mind, that jr (and possibly Kushner and Manafort) informed the donald about the details of the meeting BEFORE it took place.
I mean seriously .... from jr's own words in the email, there was huge excitement from the prospect of obtaining damaging information about Hillary. This would have been shared with daddy.

I remember when Don Jr. was on The Apprentice and our whole family called him "Trumpy" because he was such a dork. Those were simpler times.

So he just casually hangs out with so many Russians that he can't remember that he had ever met them at all?

Given the amount of shady Russian money pumped into Trump enterprises over the years, this seems entirely plausible.

This entire family will be up sh**t's creek without a paddle at the current rate this scandal is developing. This is what happens when you let incompetents who, after spending a lifetime getting away with things they shouldn't, think they will still be able to get away with things once they are under the scrutiny of the national spotlight run the country

Well this is interesting

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2017/07/11/curiousor-and-curiousor-natalia-veselnitskaya-pictured-with-obama-officals-in-dc-on-june-14th-2016/

Seems that there was collusion with foreign agents after all, just not by anyone on the Trump team.

By the way, Jared Kushner, a federal officeholder, managed to leave multiple visits with Russian government contacts off his disclosure form that you sign under threat of perjury.

Even if the rest of them end up OK, Kushner has a cut-and-dried perjury case in his future.
