ex. should the ticket consistent of...

  • two strong progressives, one strong progressive and one moderate (if so, which one would be the presidential candidate and which would be the vice presidential candidate), or two moderates
  • two candidates from the Midwest / "Middle America", one candidate from the Midwest / "Middle America" and one candidate from liberal coastal areas, or two candidates from liberal coastal areas (maybe give specific states?)
  • what type of demeanor would ideal? ex. loud and aggressive, more soft-spoken and thoughtful, a mix of the two, etc.
  • would gender, race, and age be important to think about when thinking about what pair of candidates would do the best?
  • what type of position should the candidates have held before (governor, senator, representative, member of military?) and how experienced should they be?

It would be helpful to give examples of the ideal ticket you build, maybe with maps showing 2020 election results of that ticket vs. Trump.

A person somewhat moderate on economics, but supportive of universal healthcare, while being pretty socially left wing(Ron Wyden, James Stavridis, Gavin Newsom), as well as someone generally progressive but just to the right of Warren(Stacey Abrams if she's elected Governor, Pete Buttigieg, Al Franken, Hilda Solis, Linda Sanchez, or Michelle Lujan Grisham).

The best type of ticket to fight Trump in 2020 would probably be headed by a loud, abrasive Midwestern progressive and feature a more soft-spoken, moderate coastal VP.

Brown/Harris or Brown/Booker would be good bets.

I pretty much agree, but Brown specifically is the opposite of loud and abrasive, lol.

I had never thought of that combo but it seems very very strong. Both have strong presence in the Midwest (Baldwin mainly in WI and Biden mainly in PA, two crucial states in 2020), Biden is a likable moderate with high name recognition and great debating skills while Baldwin would help energize the progressive wing of the party. Plus, who doesn't like breaking glass ceilings, with Baldwin being both the first female VP and first openly LGBT VP? Obviously that would turn off a decent chunk of voters but I'm guessing 98% of those voters were solidly conservative anyway.

I believe you would need a ticket that is appealing to everyday "Middle America." The past few Democratic nominees (including Obama) struggled in this matter. These people, who I consider myself a part of, do not enjoy being looked down upon by politicians. That is the reason Trump performed so well in what can be considered "Middle America." The economic recovery never really got to these places and people felt left behind by President Obama

I think this would be a good ticket. Baldwin seems pretty bland, but I guess that's exactly what Joe needs.

Watching Biden and Trump debate would be a treat.

My best guess is that the primaries will shape up to be Brown vs Booker, and Brown will end up choosing Harris as VP to win over the Booker primary voters.

Steve Bullock/Kamala Harris.

Governor Bullock is appealing to middle-America, is an outsider but with governing experience, a fresh new face and not too old/young, a charismatic leader and he has no baggage. Kamala Harris would be the ideal running mate. She energizes the base, would turn out minorities and women and brings Washington experience to the table, that Bullock lacks. She is also charismatic, tough and has no baggage.

This ticket would also be successful other way around (Harris/Bullock).

What's wrong with her? She's a tough and compassionate women. I think many Republicans are afraid of strong black women. And she has not the flaws of Hillary Clinton. Not even close.

An economic populist who sticks to the issues and will be willing to speak directly to middle class and working families about the failures of having a billionaire President with a billionaire cabinet at the top of the ticket. Bernie would be ideal if he were younger, but Elizabeth Warren could work too.

For a VP, I would expect a young "rising star" type, moderate, possibly from the Midwest or South to help shore up the independents and young people. Jason Kander maybe?

Jerry Brown if he was 30 years younger/Booker would be unstoppable but in reality I could see Bullock/Castro would be good or Newsome/Feingold

Bernie Sanders/Kamala Harris?

I honestly don't know right now. I think Joe Biden could work as well. I'm willing to consider a number of people right now, but I'm not willing to give another pass like I did for Hillary last year. If Bernie runs again, there's a very probability he'll get my vote and the votes of a lot of Hillary 2016 supporters I know.

Midwest, Southern Governor, mil experience Pres/Gov or Sen VP from the same

Biden/Webb would crush it but both would be a little too old by then. I know Biden isn't from the South or MW but can come across as a folksy guy from either.
