Why Mets not Rangers? Or Yankees?
How about the Mavs?
I despise the Yankees, Rangers are my favorite AL team though.

Of all the teams in NY Metro area why do you like the Mets? What about them do you like because it's obviously not winning titles

If you base who your favorite sports teams on by who "wins the most titles," you're objectively a horrible person deserving of zero respect.

It's not about wins and loses, A true fan sticks with a team for life.
My first MLB game was the Mets vs The Expos in a doubleheader at Shea stadium in 1978, Met fan ever since.

Chicago Red Stars, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Phillies.

The right person could probably convince me to root for pretty much any team though. Maybe even the Yankees. Tongue

If you base who your favorite sports teams on by who "wins the most titles," you're objectively a horrible person deserving of zero respect.
Sure, and doubly so for those that change their favorite team all the time.  This seems to be especially prevalent with casual NBA fans.

BUT!, I can totally understand losing a favorite team because they suck and just keep sucking more and more.  If you're team NEVER wins and doesn't seem to be even trying to turn the corner.  Like, how do the good people of Cincy and Cleveland put up with their football teams?  When it becomes a "thing", like with the lovable losers on the North Side of Chicago it's better...I guess.  Still, that's a lot of losing.  Other than the Blues, I've had lots of championships from my teams (STL Cards and Steelers) in my lifetime and they are all three stand up organizations.  The Blues less so than the other two by a lot, they've made some DUMB moves.  Mike phuqing Keenan....ugggg.  Still, they've almost always been competitive, sometimes right there with the best teams.

But being a fan of team that only occasionally is half good and usually is garbage?  No thanks.

Yet many people love a Big 4 premier league team here. Or like Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern not Sunderland, Deportivo de Coruña, or Hamburg SV...purely random of course, not at all based on winning titles and hence being on TV more.

Arranged in the order I care about them:

MLB: Red Sox
NFL: Vikings
NCAA FB: The Ohio State Buckeyes
NHL: Bruins
NBA: Celtics
NCAA BB: Duke Blue Devils
Premier League: Manchester United
MLS: Revs (But my favorite soccer team in general is the Dutch Men's National Team)
AFL: Soul
WNBA: Suns (Only because they play at one of my favorite casinos)

Why do you like the Vikings?

As a kid, I worshiped Brett Favre. I followed him around from Green Bay to the Jets to Minnesota. After he retired, it was easier to stick with the Vikings rather than replace all the trinkets around the house and pick a new team. Although, to be fair, I do root for the Patriots once the Vikings are out of contention.

Super Bowl 31 - everyone looking at you funny in Mass, "who's this kid cheering for Favre?"

University of Tennessee diehards followed Peyton Manning from the Colts to the Broncos. They did not do that for anyone else. Reggie White was a case of him moving to a popular team for bandwagon fans (The Packers) I had not heard of people who loved the Eagles because of him but then switched allegiances to the Packers. Definitely No Vols fans following New England because of Jerrod Mayo! They can't live down all the losses.

Montana had a few but most people grew to like the Niners with Steve Young too.

At the Patriots museum though per Gil Santos' son who spoke to the audience before the little film in the theater there about having the Patriots as their favorite team. Some woman said "what about if you have two favorite teams?" He Shrugged and said yes that is "alright unless it is the Jets!"
