Brown has a proven ability to win in a swing state, and comes from a politically useful region. He also has a higher profile.

I don't really see how Merkley is stronger.

Probably Sherrod brown since both Clinton and Sanders supporters seem to like him. Plus he's from a swing state

This. And as Del Tachi mentioned, Tim Ryan's waiting in the wings. If he doesn't nab the House leadership before 2020 and Brown is elected President, I can see him running for the open seat.

The state party would damn near crucify him if he didn't.

The other thing to consider is Brown's Senate seat is only lost if he wins. If Brown wins, he should carry Ohio. If he carries Ohio, Ryan should have a decent shot at mobilizing those same voters in a special election.

Precisely.

Both are awesome. I slightly prefer Brown because if Merkley loses then he has to give up his Senate seat.

Brown needs to STFU about Russia, so I'll go with Merkley.

How can you continue to act like the Russia story is not important? How do you not realise the severity of foreign interference in the democratic process?

It's important, but you can't run a campaign solely on "Russia, Russia, Russia"

Definitely Brown. He is liked by both Clinton and Sanders supporters, has a lot of name recognition, he can appeal to the white working class, and he is from a very important swing state.
