Backstory to come later, you can begin claiming party leaders, party members or even newspapers if you want. You are free to choose a party leader if you claim a party as long as its realistic (for example, you claim the Conservative Party Leadership as Boris Johnson, or play Boris but not as party leader).

This is the tentative list:

Key Parties (must be filled)

Labour Party (Government)
Liberal Democrats (Government coalition partner)
Conservative Party (Opposition)

Minor Parties (second priority)

UK Independence Party (two players only)
Scottish National Party (two players only)
Plaid Cymru (one player only)
Green Party (one player only)

Northern Ireland Parties (optional)

DUP (one player only)
SDLP (one player only)
Sinn Fein (one player only)
UUP or Alliance (only if other parties filled)

Newspapers are also open, there will be a list later.

I'll take John McDonnell, as he is IRL. Tongue

Sure, as the sitting Prime Minister or as a Labour backbencher?

Certainly, but small parties will only be allowed once we have the Conservative, Lib Dem and Labour party leaders.

Just to check, the MPs have to have been in parliament in 2012 right?

Ideally, but there can always be by-elections. Who did you have in mind?

I guess I'll pass, one of the best things about the old(er) mock parliament was the creation of and internal interactions of the various parties us players created. For example, getting chased out of the Socialist Party(the party I created) was incredibly fun, and I wouldn't want a mock parliament without such game play.

Have fun guys, though, and good luck.

Thanks, Murica. I considered the idea of leaving parties open to creation at first, but I figured it would be best to keep things more limited to see if the game can work. I don't rule it out in the future to leave it up to the players.

What's this, what's this? I certainly hope we can make a success out of this one and actually enjoy playing it.

And for my next trick, I will be playing Theresa May as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party.

Great!

What the heck... I'll play as Owen Smith.

I think I'll go with Lisa Nandy.

The problem I have is that I need the party leaders first, so we can actually play the General Election... In order to make this work, could I persuade you to switch to party leaders for this phase? I can promise to reserve these characters for you once we play in parliament (or you can play both).

Granted.

I'm willing to switch for GE, sure. I am willing to play Nicola Sturgeon.

Granted.

I will be Alex Salmond, leader of the SNP, instead if that's fine.

Sorry, Tim managed to claim the SNP before!

I will play as Caroline Lucas, leader of the Greens I guess

Nice!

We could really use the Lib Dems as well (particularly if its Clegg), since they'll be much stronger than in our timeline.

I'll play as Clegg then.

FWIW I can't see John McDonnell becoming Labour leader in 2012 (as the rules that let Corbyn win were introduced in 2014) but the butterfly could be say Gordon Brown (or whoever was leader after 2010) changing the leadership rules in 2012, and then John McDonnell somehow winning- which would lead to the coalition collapsing.

Welcome!

And agreed, the backstory is being worked on, but as per your suggestion Brown changed the rules (expecting it would help his chosen heir, possibly Balls) in 2011, resigned, McDonnell got in the ballot ala Corbyn and rode an unlikely wave of momentum to win in late 2011.

Clegg pulled the plug, and the Labour minority was brought down via vote of no confidence, leading to a February 2012 election.

We now have the main parties at least, so I'll be posting backstory, info and rules soon.

The government is not a factor in election gameplay, and the Lib Dems stormed out of the cabinet and coalition before the election (in protest against McDonnell).

Labour is capped , Ted may give Siren, Truman and GoTfan frontbench positions if he wants. We need at least three more Tories and hopefully one more Lib Dem, so I encourage Dereich to join the Tories as well.

If you have room for a Lib Dem, I'll play as the late, great Charles Kennedy...

Yes, sir!

Lib Dems capped at the moment, I need two more Tories to balance out the parties.

I can switch parties if it helps.  Is there anything you need?

We do need more Conservatives to balance out with Labour, but I'll wait a day or two for more sign ups.

If I'll be more useful as a Conservative MP than leading tiny party with a leader I'm yet to decide on, I'd do this.

I'd actually prefer it if you do, Kal. I think your talents would be far more useful there, as there is a limit to how far Plaid could get due to the new electoral system.

OK, I'm a Tory then!

I've got a mountain of questions Lumine; and thought it would be easier to post here so everyone can see?

1.) Has the general election campaign officially started? E.g can I spend tomorrow uploading all speeches and stuff.

2.) Do we post all our campaign stuff publicly like the allocation of CP points, or do we sent it in PMs (like in the ASIOF Game)

3.) Do we need to copy you into PM's between players?

I'm really looking forward to this

1.) Not yet! It begins tomorrow night. You can work on material in the meantime, of course.

2.) No. There will be a thread with the prices, but your purchases will be via PM. Of course, your billboards or attack material will have to be uploaded in the main campaign thread (as the public will naturally have to see it). So if you want to try and buy an endorsement or polls of a certain place, it will be secret.

3.) Yes! Whether it is OOC or IC, it's important I know what's going on. I don't see myself stepping in unless something really drastic is taking place, but I insist on being informed if the game is to work.

Yes! UKIP is now capped. Still, Classic Conservative asked for Nuttall first, so he gets to be the UKIP leader.

Remember folks, we start TOMORROW. In the meantime we have open spots for the Tories and the Lib Dems (and if someone really insists, Plaid Cymru).

Can I actually take Salma Yaqoob as leader of Respect? I think CC would be pretty effective with UKIP as is, plus Respect is a rather.....unique...party.

Fascinating as that idea might be, I'd have to say no for the time being. I'm trying to focus on the larger parties at the moment, so at best I could allow something like Plaid Cymru or some of the Northern Irish parties like the DUP.

If there's any spots left in the SNP, I'll take Angus Robertson (considering my real life party membership Tongue ).

If not, I'd be happy to take on a newspaper, or a polling organisation, should that be possible.

Robertson it is, welcome, Clyde!

Sanchez, you could always be a Eurosceptic Tory. Perhaps David Davis? Grin
Interesting idea, but I'll stick to Farage.

Included. We begin soon!

Is it too late to claim David Dimbleby or something?

Dimbleby I'm afraid falls within my purview, I control the BBC for official news. Available we have a spot in the Conservatives, Plaid Cymru, the Northern Irish parties (other than Sinn Fein) or one of the major newspapers in the UK.

Game is open. All questions via PM or on this thread, don't use the campaign thread for comment or questions!

All need to be run first save for canvassers and advertising. Those are open campaign tools, so buy those freely.

What's open for someone to jump in?

There's an open spot each for the Tories and the Lib Dems, and in minor parties there's Plaid Cymru and the Northern Irish parties other than Sinn Fein. Other than that, it could be a relevant newspaper.

I'll take the DUP. Do I have to play as Peter Robinson, or can we say that Arlene Foster has already assumed leadership?

Foster is fine with me. Great to have you on board, Dkrol!
