This seems like a needless action that would merely encourage separatists sentiment among Southerners. We are all Atlasians. Why should we strive to replicate border actions between two foreign nations (India & Pakistan)?

What's the intent of this bill? What is it aimed at remembering? I'm confused. Tongue

Okay, so every day on the Wagah border, there is the lowerling of the flags ceromony. It is characterized by military drills that are often called colorful and dance-like and has been seen as a symbol of their rivalry and their brotherhood and cooperation.

I have asked Governor Wells if he'd be interested in pushing a Northern-counterpart to this bill through and he has said he is. Right now, I ask that the Chamber pick a better spot for this, preferably in a small town or a neighborhood on a small, less-active road.

This bill glorifies separatism I think. It isn't right copy-pasting India-Pakistan on North-South. There are problems with the bill and while there is some worth amending it, it really isn't worth our time. There's more important things to do and this session only runs through mid-July.

As it has been moved and seconded, I call a 48 hour vote to take this bill.

Can't PM right now, but I will later for everyone who hasn't voted yet.

I'm sorry for interrupting the vote, but how does this glorify separatism? It's literally based on a ceremony to symbolize the friendly relationship between two countries.

Well, said ceremony can't just symoblize friendly relations, it can also symbolize antagonistic ones as well. And, of course, there is the implication is that the South and the North is like India and Pakistan? That's a troubling element of this bill. It would be much better if it were called the 'Civil War Rememberance Bill'. I would spend time amending it, because I do think remembering the Civil War is very important, but terms only last two months, and we've got a docket of bills to deal with first. Maybe in the next session we can have a historical park created on the border of North and South, to give a sense of what life was like in the 1860s, and how battles were fought and why they were fought. But we need to, really, clear the docket of other bills first. I'm all for remembering the lessons of the past, but this session only runs through mid-July. Sorry Dipper.

Great point. I agree entirely. Remembrance of past mistakes we made, by fighting among countrymen is important. Though, to model North/South relations as the relationship between two contentious sovereign (independent) nations is inappropriate. Plus, we have more important things to get to this session.

I will be abstaining.

Also just keep in mind that "more important" is very subjective.
