How would you have reacted?

What would you have been doing during this past year?  Today?

What if Ohio was very close and there was indication of some scattered voter fraud in Cuyahoga County?

Let's try to be honest here and forgo the masturbatory doomsday timelining of a Kerry presidency - let's assume that it was about as eventful as Bush's has been so far. Wink

Apathy...across the board...rather than the disappointment I've had so far.

masturbatory doomsday?  I'm not sure I would have worded it that way.

I cried in sadness when Clinton was inaugurated.  I'm sure I would have wept if this had come to pass too.

My main concern would have been that the election would have been spun as rejecting Bush's foreign policy.  It would have been a rejection of American exceptionalism and us standing up against tyranny.  I say I cried when Clinton was inaugurated, but I was also greatful to him for what he did for Kosovo.  Fortunately, President Bush picked up where he left off in that respect.

I fear that Kerry would have pulled America back and locked us into a world system where tyrants and dictators are appeased and voices in the wildnerness crying out for liberty are muzzled and ignored.

Fortunately, we retained a President who heard their voices.  John Kerry couldn't have heard them over the rushing wind of his own hot air.

I would expect, in that case, the mainstream media would have spent every day since January touting the "Kerry Economic Miracle" over the "Bush Recession," what with ~ 3.5% growth in GDP per quarter and 150 K jobs added each month.

Yawn. An average month of the Clinton adminstration had 240k new jobs. Carter and Johnson were similar.

Well, Kerry represents the people of Massachusetts fine.  I am among those who voted to re-elect him to the senate in 1996.  And if I find myself a voting resident of the Bay State in 2008, I'd consider voting for him again.  And I'm so glad he's still a senator and not the US President.  For just as much as I believe Bush would be a lousy legislator but a decent executor, I believe Kerry is a decent legislator but really doesn't come across, to me, as a good executor.  I'm still mystified and frustrated as to why so many americans either totally misunderstand the Constitution and the clearly stated job descriptions therein, or just enjoy applying the Peter Principle at every opportunity.

That said, I'd not have had much reaction had Kerry won.  I'd probably still have done all the things and gone to all the places that I did in the intervening months.  I'm not sure anything would be very different had Kerry won, with the exception that, except for DT, all my stocks have done very well since November 2.  That may be the biggest difference.  Oh, and I'd have had to write a five-letter instead of a four-letter word in my Baby's book on the "Signs of the Times" page beside where it says President: ______.

I prefer four-letter words, as anyone who regular reads my posts knows, but I'm capable of five letter words as well, so I guess it wouldn't be so bad.

But then if I actually thought Kerry would win, I wouldn't have put most of my roth IRA into munitions and pharmaceuticals last year, would I?  Don't blame the candidates.  You're expected to do your own homework.  Wink

The weird thing about the 2004 Presidential election was that on Election day/night, I wasn't concerned at all. I wasn't thinking "Bush has this in the bag" but I did think he was going to win and didn't have time to worry about the race. Throughout the night, I was occupied with "other" races specifically one, certain race here in PA.  Wink   When that race was called, I began to focus more on the Presidential election but even then, I wasn't worried. At the end of the night, I went to bed without worrying about the result. I woke up, watched Kerry concede, watched Bush celebrate and went on.

It recently dawned on me, though, that if Ohio had swung the other way, I'd be feeling very different. If I was watching a Kerry victory celebration, I would have probably went into shock and then I would have gotten very angry.

I spent a lot of time, as many know, on the Brown for Congress campaign. I did a few things for Bush but if we went back in time and Kerry won, I would have wished that I did a lot more. Though PA Republicans did a lot for Bush in PA, more could have been done. If Kerry became President and we had a chance to change that, we would have done more. Much more.

As for the voter fraud in Ohio, I would have been pissed off but would have never considered doing what Gore and company did in 2000. There is a point where enough is enough and you have to move on. There were some irregularities back in 1960 but I doubt you would find as many people complaining about those problems from 1960 in 1965. Point is - I'd move on and would hope that officials made the effort to make sure those problems never occured again.
