angus,

I'm tempted to come up with a graphic which reflects the view the right wing of the GOP has of us.

I'm thinking a Soviet Flag, with pictures of Lincoln and TR on it very much in the style of those Red Square, May Day Banners.

Teddy.  The other Teddy.  Ah, yes, the real teddy.  The one who so liked cotton-stuffed bear toys that they began to be called after him.  Yeah, he's still my favorite Teddy.

As for that other Teddy and well, generally regarding Democrats of the Authoritarian or Wealth-Redistribution ilk, let's just say that what the right wing of the party thinks of us is basically summed up by a phrase that has come up often today:  The enemy of my enemy is my friend.  An uneasy alliance, to be sure (Surely these fragile alliances can crumble.  Just look at how the Dems have gone from 67 safe senate seats slowly down to 45 within our lifetime.)  Still, I haven't felt antagonized by folks like jmfcst on this forum.   And generally agree with them on the important stuff (i.e., market issues)  Though that Richius does give me a hard time.  But he's not even a real gringo;  he's a Canadian, so he doesn't count.

Yeah, Teddy on a red flag would suit me just fine.  Better yet would be an American Flag, or a mural with a profile of a pentagon official burning dollars with middle eastern oil with the words:  Remember when Conservative meant "saving stuff" (like money and the environment)?

Conserve (not equal sign) War would even be better.  For its simplicity.

Waste not.  Want not.

I think I may have been Dutch (or chinese or jew) in my previous life.  I'm more of the cheapo type of conservative.  And blood does not come cheaply.  On the other hand, I am addicted to driving my big gas-guzzling Mercedes Benz.  Know what I mean?  Can't really have it both ways, can we?

My best was a 68% match with Feingold.

He was my worst match (Surprise!).

My best was Trent Lott, which was also a surprise (only 50% match on social issues).

I think Trent Lott has a contract out on me, but that's another story.

My closest is probably Thornburgh or Ridge.

That match doesn't surprise me.  It's questionable whether Bunning is mentally sound, but you would get along well with Jon Kyl and James Inhofe.
