You've just voted and an exit pollster asks you your party ID and ideological orientation, how would you respond?

Independent and Moderate... Look @ avatar, and Political Compass on my sig.

You are an extreme conservative -no one who posts regularly at Free Republic and has such rabid unreasoning hatred of homosexuals should even pretend that they are 'moderate'.  You are in truth only ever so slightly less conservative than StatesRights -which isn't saying much.

If you are a 'moderate', then the word itself has lost all meaning.

Technically, but he's really a Libertarian. He was our candidate for President once. If the Republicans had more like him in office I'd consider joining them.

Why? The Republican Party can't have any libertarians in it?

He shouldn't steal a party identification to get himself elected.

The Republicans are damn near the opposite of libertarian nowadays. They meddle in people's lives socially and spend like crazy fiscally. Why would Ron Paul identify himself as a Republican when he disagrees with their core beliefs?

First off, would you complain if a socialist wanted to run in the Democrat Party because he couldn't get elected as a socialist?

Second, you should be glad he's in the Republican Party - a hardcore conservative could be in his seat, you know.
