Opinion of the Family Guy episode about Jesus losing his virginity

I just saw it on Netflix. I thought it was terrible.

It was not the premise that offended me and honestly a lot of the cutaways were pretty funny as was the Brian and Stewie B-plot, but the portrayal of Jesus was horribly offensive. Basically Peter and Lois met Jesus again at the mall and invited him to the Drunken Clam. There Jesus claimed to be a virgin (hence the title "The 2000 Year Old Virgin", so Peter and the guys started plotting to get him laid especially as Christmas was coming up (his birthday.) Nothing worked, until Lois talked to him and gave him some advice. Jesus then told Peter that he decided Lois would be the perfect woman to lose his virginity too, and Lois wanted to, so Peter ended up agreeing to it. Then at the Clam Peter heard from some other guys there that Jesus had claimed to be a virgin and slept with their wives and it's just something he does to get easy sex from married women. So Peter showed up, and talked Lois out of it, and Jesus pretended this was in fact some test and lesson he was trying to teach them even though he was obviously kidding about it, even though Peter and Lois bought it. Jesus walks off, the end.

What I really disliked wasn't even the idea of the plot but the big reveal that Jesus was in fact some scam artist trying to manipulate women into sex and lying. That was the problem and the offensive part. At least up until this episode the character Jesus on Family Guy was portrayed as a pretty good and likable guy.

So basically there are two Family Guy episodes that suck and have actually offended me (the other obviously being "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven")

It doesn't offend me usually. Like I love it when it makes fun of conservatives. And when it makes fun of other religions, sure I don't care. But I HATE it whenever something makes fun of liberals or Christianity.

Um, everyone is more offended by things they like being made fun of.

Like you said you never saw the show, but I'm willing to bet that you'd be more offended by this or this than the aforementioned episode.

Although to be fair I've learned that a lot of Hmong seem to like it partially BECAUSE of the racist jokes about Asians, not in spite of them.

It's a bit irreverent, but the God of Abraham himself has a very sick sense of humor.  See, for example, Genesis 22:1-12.  We like to talk about how weird and sick the Greeks and the Aztecs were, but the Jews were pretty twisted as well.  Christians too, since they're basically Jews2.0.  Also, Jesus did have a thing for prostitutes.  (Luke 7, Matthew 26, etc.)

Get your panties out of a wad.  The episode may have been poorly done, and after all that isn't surprising because they can only get so many reasonably fresh seasons out of their central conceit, but don't get offended at making fun of the mythology of the Christ.  Otherwise, you're no better than the fanatics who gun down editorial cartoon writers.

Bottom line:  Jesus of Nazareth is famous, and he has lots of followers.  If you're famous, people are going to take a cheap shot at you once in a while.  The real Jesus wouldn't get so offended as you are getting right now, so if you're his follower, then why should you get so bent out of shape?
