You want proof? Alright!
Read the old testament! It is the creation of the univere in a nutshell. So as to not take every word of that literally. This part of the old testament was written this way, so the people of the time would understand how God created the universe. Most of the creation as put in the bible, is metaphorical, again, so people of the time would understand.
God created this universe so big and complex, that even today we cannot understand its own origin.

The old testament isn't proof - there are tons of other creation stories out there that conflict with it, and none of them have any more or less proof than that one. Now, I'd like some real proof please. Smiley

Again, another human flaw! our self-underestimation! Most people refuse to believe in something unless they see it, or there is "proof" I need not prove the existance of a divine being. Why would I? All you have to do is believe in him. or read the bible, or just study religion, instead of remaining with an agnostic mind.

There are fifty gods, each one taking the form of an ethereal fruit or vegetable. I need not prove this to you.

You just contradicted your facist views on homosexuality.

I love these threads about God, because now I have another quote!

"I would rather live my life and say there is a God, and find out there isn't one, than say there isn't a God, and find out there is." Smiley

It is called Pascal's Wager.

Besides the man-with-man sex ban, what else does Leviticus say? And how much do you care?

Let's see:

"Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard." (Leviticus 19:27)

You've never cut your hair or shaved your beard before?

According to Leviticus 27:6, you are worth 20 shekels.  Congrats Smiley

Oh well, I suppose you're looking forward to your 20th birthday when you will increase in value 150%.

If you can't say for sure one way or the other, then don't you lose more by leaning no than by leaning yes?
Please explain... I hope you don't mean to refer to Pascal's Wager.

Pascal's Wager makes sense to me.

But I also find that belief in God makes my current life better as well.  At times when I doubt the existence of God, I find myself filled with existential angst and feelings of meaninglessness, and become generally depressed.  I find the best way to maintain my own sanity and positive outlook is to assume his existence and accept that I was never meant to understand the specifics.

It's wholly predicated on logical fallacies. Most importantly, it assumes that God rewards blind faith, rather than true beliefs. It creates a false dilemma.

Given that John Dibble is asking you for proof and is telling you that he won't believe without it, it seems to me that you do need to prove the existence of a divine being.

Question: given that you must already fully believe in Christianity before you will take the Bible to be 100% true and the Word of God, why are you giving it as "proof" that God exists?  Can you prove that every sentence in the Bible is absolute truth?

It's a set of LITERAL laws that no Christian should follow because they have the New Testament.

It's a good way to get post numbers up.  I used to do it when I cared about post numbers.

What are the logical fallacies?  I didn't think it assumed that any particular belief would be rewarded, simply that having some belief would give you a better chance of being rewarded than believing in nothing.  I believe people who lead a good life and don't believe in God may be rewarded as well, but if you're going to buy into the wager, you might as well believe in God's existence to go alongside your good works.  I suppose I could imagine a God that only rewarded athiests, but this seems unlikely

False dilemma, Plurium interrogationum

Here is an unproven assumption. Why should it be assumed that God will be more likely to reward blind faith rather than truthfulness and honesty? (Plurium interrogationum)
