Pat Lally concedes defeat. So no suprises there. But who will a split vote punish?

Livingston

Lab 41.8%
SNP 32.7%
LD 14.8%
Con 6.8%
Some fringe candidates ran as well. None over 2%
Turnout 38.6%

In terms of raw votes, the SNP polled basically what they did in May (79 more votes to be precise. Not impressive) Labour and LibDem votes fell with turnout.

Glasgow Cathcart

Lab 37.7%
SNP 22.2%
Con 15%
LD 10%
Lally 5%
Some fringe candidates also stood. None over 4%
Turnout 32%

Much better showing for Labour than anyone predicted. Huge disapointment for the SNP. I'm suprised, but delighted.

You could say that, yes Wink

Labour candidate was a former leader of Glasgow City Council. Maybe he knew where to find the bodies? Wink Grin

Charles Gordon has a reputation as a 'bruiser', always fighting the case for Glasgow. I hope he continues to do so in Holyrood. Despite not being a Labour supporter anymore, he was my favoured choice to win the seat.

For me the greatest result was that of the Scottish Socialists. They are falling back from their high point of 2003. Even the Greens bet them in Livingston. Under the leadership of Colin Fox with his earing and 1980's mullet they are being gradually exposed as a bit of a laughing stock now.

Do you suppose Sheridan will hold on to his Glasgow seat? At least that's where i think it is.

Sheridan will survive the cull. He is the only one with name recognition and (misguided) principles.

The party however will loose a most of it's MSP's from the east of Scotland including Colin Fox. The Lib Dems and the Greens are serious challenges here.

The Greens never actually stood in any constituencies last time round, puting all their energy into the list seats and still outdone the SSP.

Both did amazingly well. I remember reading those results and being shocked and delighted. Cheesy

Trust me. While I can stomach the Greens, the SSP appeal to the lowest of the low. It's not even the working class, its the incapacity benefit folk, the ones who never work who never want to work who vote for them. The genuine working class are apalled by the SSP as they know they will continue to pick up the bill for the scroungers.

As for the SSP in Holyrood, they do believe they are in a student debating society. They have a blatant disregard for the rules, don't turn up or turn up with people who heckle from the public gallery. It's a jeans and t-shirt affair for many of them.

When they don't turn up, or when most of them are in custody for breaking the law, they miss vital votes and hurt the very people they are supposed to be helping.

Yeah, I know, they're not doing too well. Of course that's precisely why they've imploded. It was probably inevitable.
Still, that election result was cool. Had the potential to provide a healthy shock for Labour.
And everybody's votes are worth the same.
