I agree with most of your list, but why vote for Pinckney and not Adams? Adams was easily one of the best Federalists in my opinion, while Pinckney was one of the worst, especially on slavery. It's odd to me that you would vote for all these nonentites the Federalists nominated in later years but not the great John Adams.

I was very torn on the issue of voting for John Adams and, when first typing this list, I did cast my "vote" for John Adams. However, I reversed that decision based on two factors:

1. On principle, I would've abhorred the Alien and Seditions Act that Adams enacted.
2. I would've been considerably more aligned with France than Great Britain and would've detested the way in which Adams & Co. campaigned against Jefferson on this issue.
But Pinckney? The man literally wrote the 3/5ths compromise. At least write-in Clinton in 1808 if you can't stomach Madison.

That's a fair enough criticism. I admit to not being as familiar with Pinckney as I should be and chose him primarily as a protest vote against the inevitable Democratic-Republican victors. Considering how awful he was on the issue of slavery, I may have to reconsider my votes for him. Thank you for educating me on this!

1900: Bryan
1904: Roosevelt
1908: Debs
1912: Debs
1916: Benson (most likely)
1920: Debs

1924: La Follette
1928: Thomas
1932: Thomas
(hindsight: FDR)
1936: Roosevelt
1940: Roosevelt
1944: Roosevelt

1948: Wallace
1952: Eisenhower (tho unsure, depends on campaign, with hindsight Ike
1956: Stevenson Eisenhower
1960: Kennedy (without hindsight, Nixon potentially due to incumbency coattails of Ike)
1964: Johnson
1968: Humphrey (without hindsight, Nixon potentially due to Vietnam)
1972: McGovern

1976: McCarthy
1980: No vote
1984: No vote
1988: Dukakis (unsure though)
1992: Perot (without hindsight, maybe Clinton)
1996: Perot (without hindsight, maybe Clinton)

2000: Nader (without hindsight, maybe Gore)
2004: Kerry (due to Iraq opposition)
2008: Obama (incl. in primary)
2012: Obama

2016: Trump
2020: Biden (probably the most unenthusiastic vote ever, but at the end of the day, i would've voted Biden and would regret it because of his terrible cabinet appointments, but because of Trump's refusal to concede and false voter fraud allegiatons, i would do it again in hindsight in a semi-competitive state and likely vomit )
2024: if Harris vs Trump: most likely Harris, if Biden vs Trump: depends on presidency, likely third party and downballot Democratic. But I prefer some GOP politicians over Biden, like Hawley, Crenshaw and DeSantis, which could easily change. I could change party registration to vote in GOP primaries, if there wasn't a competitive Democratic primary downballot or for president in 2024.

I started in 1828 since I'd guess I'd have gotten the right to vote by them, perhaps not any earlier. Will come back and color them in later. This is based on my guess as what I would have done then, without hindsight (hence the Obama '08 vote).

1828 John Q. Adams [National Republican]
1832 Henry Clay [National Republican]

1836 Martin Van Buren [Democratic]
1840 James G. Birney [Liberty]
1844 James G. Birney [Liberty]
1848 Martin Van Buren [Free Soil]
1852 John Hale [Free Soil]

1856 John Fremont [Republican]
1860 Abraham Lincoln [Republican]
1864 Abraham Lincoln [Republican]
1868 Ulysses S. Grant [Republican
1872 Ulysses S. Grant [Republican]

1876 Peter Cooper [Greenback]
1880 James Weaver [Greenback]
1884 Benjamin Butler [Greenback]
1888 Alson Streeter [Union Labor]
1892 James Weaver [Populist]

1896 William J. Bryan [Democratic]
1900 Eugene Debs [Socialist]
1904 Eugene Debs [Socialist]
1908 Eugene Debs [Socialist]
1912 Euegene Debs [Socialist]
1916 Allan Benson [Socialist]
1920 Eugene Debs [Socialist]

1924 Robert LaFollette [Progressive]
1928 Norman Thomas [Socialist]
1932 Franklin Roosevelt [Democratic]
1936 Franklin Roosevelt [Democratic]
1940 Franklin Roosevelt [Democratic]
1944 Franklin Roosevelt [Democratic]

1948 Henry Wallace [Progressive]
1952 Vincent Hallinan [Progressive]

1956 Darlington Hoopes [Socialist]
1960 Farell Dobbs [Socialist Workers]

1964 Lyndon B. Johnson [Democratic]
1968 Eldridge Cleaver [Peace & Freedom]
1972 Benjamin Spock [People's]
1976 Eugene McCarthy [independent]
1980 Clifton DeBerry [Socialist Workers]
1984 Melvin Mason [Socialist Workers]
1988 James Warren [Socialist Workers]

1992 Ross Perot [independent]
1996 Ralph Nader
2000 Ralph Nader

2004 Ralph Nader [independent]
2008 Barack Obama [Democratic]
2012 Jill Stein

----

As to my actual votes, I didn't vote in 2016 because I was anarchist and opposed to voting on principle. Also, I lived in Georgia so my vote didn't matter anyways (wasn't a swing state yet) and, of course, "Hillary is going to win anyway." In 2020 I voted for Biden to appease the women in life, even though I was leaning towards not voting again.

It's hard for me to say prior to the modern era, other than Adams & Son, Lincoln (obviously), USG, SGC, Teddy, FDR. This is from an earlier thread. Obviously I lean heavily into some of my idols like Estes Kefauver, Robert F. Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, and Bernie Sanders. Also, while Al Gore would have been a fine president, I wonder what would have happened had Bradley taken off or if Gore had made him VP or another progressive instead of that awful, foul Lieberman.

1952: Kefauver/Eisenhower
1956: Kefauver/Eisenhower
1960: Kennedy
1964: Johnson
1968: Kennedy/Humphrey

Why would you choose Eisenhower over Adlai Stevenson II, since Kefauver was the candidate for vice president on Stevenson's slate?

I think Eisenhower was a good president for his time, but I like Kefauver better. I don't really rate Adlai Stevenson at all, and the fact that he was nominated in such a non-democratic fashion in 1952, as was standard back then, would have angered me against the Democratic Party.

He's pro-immigration reform and pro-LGBT and I don't like Obama (who, ftr, was not great on immigration). By the time the NC primaries rolled around in 2012, Karger would've withdrawn so I probably would have written in someone. This is because I didn't really like any of the other candidates who ran in 2012 except maybe Ron Paul. I think at least Paul is genuine but I have deep policy disagreements with him that would probably prevent support on my part.

Interesting, I’m not too knowledgeable about Karger but he sounds cool
