New York Sen. Hillary Clinton wins the 2008 Democratic nomination in a bitter battle against Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney wins the 2008 Republican nomination after the Bushes and Rove connections help him in key states like IL, NY, CA, FL. Who wins?

Was 2008 even winnable for the GOP after the financial crisis hit?

Hillary of course wins, but as 2016 proves she's no Obama and Mitt Romney is better on the stump than McCain (and isn't stupid enough to pick someone like Palin)

✓ Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) / Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) - 329 electoral votes
Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) / Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA) - 209 electoral votes
