The "economic anxiety" nonsense isn't worth much. People just don't want to live in a multicultural country.

As a resident of Toronto, I find that sentiment mystifying ;-)

Interesting that Mélenchon goes to the runoff there despite only winning a handful of departments.

That's thanks to Paris being a black hole for Le Pen.

Speaking of which, if one were to conjure a US-type electoral-college/single-round-of-voting scenario for France, how might the race have turned out?

Tie between Le Pen and Macron in electoral college, effectively coming down to how Melenchon's electors vote.
That's total bullsh*t, especially since she's not going to win that many departments.

I *did* specify, "single-round-of-voting", i.e. same cast of players, not a runoff btw/ top two finishers.

Incidentally, is there yet a link for first-round votes by constituency/circonscription?

Don't have a map or details, but Wikipedia (with a source in French) says Macron won 230 constituencies to 216 for Le Pen, 67 for Melenchon and 53 for Fillon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_legislative_election,_2017#Background

Map by constituencies

Other maps on this website

And you can find all the data of the election on the government website

Maybe it's my system or my rough French, but I'd like to know *vote figures*, not just winners by constituency...

If there were something less cumbersome to read than Excel, I'd be satisfied.

If that's the preference of a self-described *moderate* Republican, boy is the US in trouble...

As with the first round, I'd like to know the results (mapped, at least)by constituency.

I've been using lepoint.fr as a resource for colour-coded 1st and 2nd round maps by constituency/canton; but it seems like the colour code's disappeared

Is there an alternate, presently-available resource?  (Remember: my French isn't the greatest, so it's hard to search)

Good for results.  Not so good for maps, or for certain kinds of "breakdowns" (i.e. by constituency as opposed to by department). In which case, supplemental sites/maps are absolutely useful.

Incidentally, lepoint.fr has got its colours back--I checked.
