Last minute hunch that Fillon was underpolled while Macron was overpolled
I used to not think the former was true, but on the prediction thread, I heard some pretty compelling arguments for Fillon outperforming.

Taniel @Taniel
France 2 anchors are explicitly hinting they'll be able to give outcome of who'll be in the Top 2 by 8pm sharp (in 26 minutes). Watch below.

*Bold* prediction: The results are going to surprise us for a reason not yet known.
I'm convinced the surprise will be one of the following (ordered by likelihood, in my opinion):

1. Fillon extremely overperforms
2. Macron misses the runoff
3. Le Pen misses the runoff

Chances are number 1 will cause one of the other two to happen.

If Melenchon loses tonight, will a lot of his younger voters stay home?

Is there a site that has France 2 in English? If so, can you post the link?

Historically the first estimate has been very accurate - if they're confidently predicting Macron over Le Pen, it is probably the case. Fillon v Melenchon could go either way
Ok. Thanks

People in Fillon's camp calling for Fillon's voters to vote Le Pen.
I had a feeling Fillon's people would differ from the Les Republicains mainstream. I doubt Fillon will endorse tonight.

It's funny how compared to American presidential candidates, Hamon's concession speech was really short.

If only the US's elections were like that.

But sometimes, the suspense can be exhilarating.

Makes it easier to get the 40% I rate as a success.

40% is a "success" to you, which, of course, is a codeword for "still losing". Just admit that Le Pen is a losing loser who lost and that Wilders, Petry, and co. will never come to even close to achieving power.

You lost. You people always lose. Suck it up, buttercup, and just get over it.

That was your biggest defeat yet; y'all were conned by the master con artist of the United States. The globalist agenda will continue unrestricted.

I don't want illegal immigrants kicked out. Strange for a populist-supporting Republican, but it's true.  Also, the biggest con artist is the Democrat Party, the socialist media-manipulating liars they are.

In election after election across the West, the Left has collapsed and the Right has either collapsed or adapted itself to the Far-Right. Each election has shown the "new left" being composed of white collar and minority, neoliberal, globalists against working and middle class nationalists. This does not bode well for those of us who support a Left detached from neoliberalism.

I understand your frustration I really do.

But just remember that this wave of populism had been 30-35 years in the making. Rright now it's more centered towards the right wing; but plenty of left wing populist movements are either forming or thriving. If the right wing populists either fail to win power or enact serious positive change then you'll see the next global phase be geared towards populist leftism.
No, that won't happen, unless these populist leftists oppose multiculturalism and immigration. The "economic anxiety" nonsense isn't worth much. People just don't want to live in a multicultural country.

I'm afraid you're correct. Our current thinking is still stuck in a 20th century left/right political dichotomy, whereas the new left/right is emerging before our very eyes without us seeing it clearly. Bernie is the last gasp of a dying era, not the dawn of a new one. The future is a battle between globalization and nationalism in the world's most multicultural, globalized countries. Whether you're left or right depends on your position on this new spectrum.

Oh I hope so.  #DownWithSocialism

This is a new right-wing movement that sticks it to the establishment, to the "rich and powerful," and brings more positive solutions.  The US is the perfect example of this.

Nah, the victory of candidates like Van der Bellen, Hillary (in the PV, pretty clearly), Rutte, and Macron is the trend. The centrists are ascendant and supported by the people, and can be beaten only through weird electoral systems in the event of terrible candidates running terrible campaigns.

The US kicked this off. Clearly. (btw you left out Brexit) One of these days, right-wing populists will be controlling the nations.  It will happen.

There's no such thing as a right-wing movement that "sticks it to the rich and powerful", you tedious dolt. Protecting the interests of the rich and powerful is literally the whole point of right-wing politics.
How so? Lowering taxes? I'll give that to you, if you forget it kinda helps more people than that. Right-wing is about protecting what people work for, what people love, what people aspire to be, not taking it away with stupid promises of free stuff

I love how the right says the left is triggered <--- lol that word / by patriotism, I just find it funny when the extreme right who goes against democratic values and claims to be patriotic go against said values, especially in the U.S and France.
Which "democratic" values? Open borders? Banning free speech?
