Is Fillon or Macron more conservative.? I always forget.
Fillon, by far. Especially on social issues.

Is there any live stream showing results of larger municipalities as they come in?
I'm sure all major networks will have a running feed with results by departments and municipalities. I'm watching France 24's English livestream, link is here: http://www.france24.com/en/livefeed

If Le Pen doesn't make it, I'm going to put a hole through my wall
Why? Did you bet on it?

Nicolas Dupont-Aignan at 5% is amazing
Turns out making a scene on national television can gain you some sympathy.

I don't care. I'm so proud to be in the 6% who made the right choice. The 94% can go screw themselves.

"I don't care.  I'm proud to be in the 1% who made the right choice.  The 99% can go screw themselves." - every Jill Stein voter

This is a very stupid comparision. France had two-rounds voting system.

Not really given that there was some real uncertainty about whether Macron (the only pro-EU candidate) was going to make it to the run-off.  What matters most in this election is that France chooses a pro-EU candidate and Macron was the only electable one.

Sorry, I'm not going to vote for a f**king neoliberal investment banker piece of sh*t just because he's ~pro-EU~ Smiley Smiley Smiley

Are investment bankers automatically sh**t or is this a specific attack on Macron?
Anything right of Melenchon or Hamon is neoliberalism.

can someone explain to me why exit polls are so much more definitive in europe than america.

How are candidates already speaking when barely any vote is in?
It's partial results, not an exit poll. It's like the difference between a biopsy and a questionnaire.

Prads-Haute-Bléone is done, Le Pen wins. Oddly enough, Macron came in second.

Ipsos snap poll has it as Macron 62 Le Pen 38 for second round.
Pretty much in line with polls prior to today.

Le Pen is running in 5th in Paris, lol

Are there any French people still living?

No, it's 78% morrocan, 28% Turks and 16% chinese

The sad truth is, that you're not far away from reality...

Wikipedia is your friend; the area is overwhelmingly "born in Metropolitan France": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5th_arrondissement_of_Paris#Immigration

Very little research needs to be done to discover that the area is very wealthy and overwhelmingly white.
But Vosem...muh Camp of the Saints narrative...

Born in France does not mean that they are French ;-) But ok, I know that for you guys a sheep born in a chicken coop is a chicken, not a sheep...
Your racism is showing.

Shouting racism doesn't make you win the argument, sweetie.
Then what is French identity? Genetic? Whiteness? Culture? And if so, how do you discriminate between Frenchness and non-Frenchness? Is this true for the United States as well? Are some American citizens not Americans?

https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-04-26/le-pen-ambushes-macron-with-french-plant-trip-to-attack-on-trade

good move from Marine. Her campaign for the runoff is very good. Not enough to be elected of course.

Macron is going to be very unpopular very soon (faster than Hollande, if possible).

Le Pen spent 10 minutes there with her militants taking selfies. Macron spent 1h this morning talking with unions, them 1h30 with workers, booed when he arrived, succeed to talk with them and shook hands when he left.

It was a good move from Le Pen at noon, Macron reversed the situation at 4pm.

Polls
OpinionWay
Macron: 60% (-1)
Le Pen: 40%

Ifop
Macron: 60.5% (-0.5)
Le Pen: 39.5%
So, net Macron win or just a draw?

Interesting that Mélenchon goes to the runoff there despite only winning a handful of departments.

That's thanks to Paris being a black hole for Le Pen.

Speaking of which, if one were to conjure a US-type electoral-college/single-round-of-voting scenario for France, how might the race have turned out?
http://www.economist.com/blogs/graphicdetail/2017/04/daily-chart-19

Tie between Le Pen and Macron in electoral college, effectively coming down to how Melenchon's electors vote.
That's total bullsh*t, especially since she's not going to win that many departments.

I *did* specify, "single-round-of-voting", i.e. same cast of players, not a runoff btw/ top two finishers.
You did, the moderate heroes at the Economist did not.

Panzergirl is still probably going to lose, but God, if she breaks 45% this time, you can be sure 2022 will be her election to lose.
The NF isn't going to be the same entity in five years. Infighting's gonna ensue after this, mark my words.

This is the thing most people are missing. If Le Pen loses, but still performs above her polling expectations, and Macron has a bad five years—economic stagnation, terrorism, or just inefficiency—2022 is going to be ugly.
2017 is a completely different world from 2012. Trying to predict what 2022 will be like is insane.

That is why I put out all those qualifiers about what 2022 France/Europe would have to look like.
I get where you're coming from and I recognize that. This is more directed at the others in this thread who think the next five years are going to be exactly like 2012-2017. If you asked me back in 2012 what the world would look like today, I would have been way off the mark.

When I got caught plagiarizing, I just called it an allusion! I mean, it was really on the nose and actually copied the original work, but aren't they the same thing at the end of the day?

Macron threatens to leave the debate tomorrow if Le Pen is too aggressive.

Oh God, that would be PATHETIC.

What a sh*tty f**king choice we have. I think I'd rather have Chirac again.

The two factions of NF are on a collision course and my guess is, it'll cause some serious damage.

So far from what I am seeing on French twitter, people are liking Macron's wit and calmness. Dislike Le Pen's aggressiveness and lack of policy.
Well that's a good sign, Anglophobe Twitter is full of goddamn morons and that unemployed British fuck.
