What's up with Aisne swinging hard right? Hollande won it by 5 points but Le Pen leads by 11, but there's still a lot of vote to count.

This runoff is not between the left and the right.

I'm just trying to understand why the only three departments Le Pen is currently leading in also happen to be places where Hollande won.

Because many voters would prefer a left-winger to a right-winger but prefer a candidate like Panzergirl to one like FBM. There's nothing strange about that.

Gotta love the mental gymnastics needed to get to that point. Then again people like that will likely be getting what they deserve here in the US in a disgusting way with healthcare.

EDIT: The far left and far right are really just the same thing, fully authoritarian, just for different goals. So really not that surprising.

Yeah there are many strange things about that.  I guess some on the french left just like racist propaganda.

Whatever you think of it, it's really not hard to understand if you're not politically illiterate.

More election data:

Vote by age and sex

Interesting that the old are very much to left, why is that? WWII memories?

They're not leftists. They just don't like Le Pen. Old people were also the only reason Fillon was even a factor in the first round.

You know what guys, I think Macron is going to fall apart like all the centrist candidates in the past. Look at Barre or Balladur or Bayrou, no way he makes it. People want economic leftism, not a banker candidate

Looking at the breakdown by age it seems that  Macron's larger than expected victory came from LR voters coming out to vote  Macron.  If so that bodes well for LR in the legislative elections and bode poorly for FN in the second round of elections even if I am sure FN will get an unprecedented level of support in the first round.

He's such a slow walker that they're playing it two times.

Macron wins the Ardennes, so scratch that off the list.

One can only hope this loss for FN pushes that scarily high 21% down.

In all of the Bretagne Le Pen won a total of 4 communes. Over 50 point lead for beautiful flawless Emmanuel in that region.

question....how does this work?

does EM now need to find willing candidates before the election or is "party voting" good enough?
