How the Far-right support appeared in 1956, 1965, 1984, and 2007.

The FN lost supported in the Ile-de-france when it switched from a thatcherite economic policy to that closer of the PS on economic issues.  But it also gained support in the former industrial/coal mining regions near Belgium.

Meanwhile they always did well in the Southern coast of France oweing mainly to the Pied-noirs and their descendants.

Question for the French posters:

How many runoff debates/interviews are there ? And when is the next one ?

And have Melenchon and Dupont (or the small candidates) made some moves on who they are going to support (if at all) ?

Is that definitely or only for now ?

I heard something that he waits a couple days to talk with his voters what they want and then announces his decision. His voters btw support Macron by a 78-22 margin (if you remove those who abstain).

One debate on May, 3.

Prime-time interview of Le Pen tonight on TF1, Macron on Thursday.

Mélenchon has launched a consultation online today, asking his supporters what they intend to do between abstention/blank vote/vote Macron.
The result will be released on May, 2.

Mélenchon himself will speak on his Youtube channel tomorrow or Thursday.

Okay, important question: I'm trying to make a map of the overseas vote from the PDF someone posted above. I speak French pretty well, but I was going through the results, and one was listed for somewhere called "Ancienne République" (Old/Ancient Republic). I wasn't familiar with what country this refers to in France, so I went into French Wikipedia and typed it in. It brought me to the page for the Old Republic from Star Wars. So, is there a country "Ancienne République" in French, or do Jedis also get to vote in overseas French elections?

That's similar to Irmgard Griss, who also waited a few days/weeks to listen to her voters and then endorsed Van der Bellen before the runoff.
Stop...

Results from Israel:
8370 votes of 57,738 eligible voters
Fillon 60.41%
Macron 30.93%
La Pen 3.72%
Melenchon 1.60%
Dupont Aignan 1.08%
Benoit Hamon 0.98%
The rest are all <0.5%

Interesting as they were all mostly PS voters in France

Its hard to imagine what any French-Israelis would find the least bit appealing about Fillon compared to Macron. If there is one thing about Jewish voters that is pretty consistent it is that they tend to be cosmopolitan and support international institutions like the EU and to be very socially liberal (certainly Jews from western countries not those from Russia or the Arab world). Fillon is a conservat9ive catholic who is anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage and his foreign policy is pro-Putin.  From a Jewish perspective - what's not to HATE?

In contrast i would say that Macron would be the quintessential candidate that a lot of Jewish voters would rally behind - socially liberal, internationalist and yet more pro-business

Perhaps Fillon's stance on the immigration/Islam issue had some support among French Jews in Israel, who found it much easier to vote for him than Le Pen.

Many French Jews are the descendants of Algerian Jews who were expelled from that country in 1962, and as a result they've mostly been voting right-wing since, much like the pied-noirs. Le Pen is obviously an unpalatable choice, so the candidate of LR and its predecessors tends to get a lot of support.

Many[/i] French Jews are the descendants of Algerian Jews who were expelled from that country in 1962,

I thought most French Jews were Ashkenazi and had been in France since long before the Algerian war etc... and also that those who are from North Africa are much more likely to be Moroccan than Algerian. Feelings about the Algerian war were much more raw in the 60s and 70s and 80s than now...but in that era Jews tended to support Mitterrand over Giscard (esp. since the latter was seen to be very pro-Arab)

Quick question: compared to US Republicans, what are Les Républicains doing that make the right-wing more appealing to Jews?

Damn. 55,92% Macron, the highest in any country on earth. Also less then 3,5% Le Pen is quite nice.

They also have results based on city, but the file is formatted strange.

Montreal has Macron an melenchon not far behind which is surprising since my idea of french expats in montreal was that they were more of the higher income group.

Le Pen did well in a part of Argentina, getting 32%.

Her best city in the US for Le Pen was Miami at 13%.

And she also performed well in some Eastern european cities like St. Petersburg, Minsk, Belgrade.

And strangly did well with french expats in Djibouti(!!!??!) and Dominican Republic

There is a large French military base in Djibouti, I assume her votes are from soldiers rather than traditional expats.

Makes sense, some people were running away with the idea that Le Pen did well amongst foreign french residents of immigrant background.
