I think McMuffin should go for it.  Hatch has had a good run, but he's part of the old guard, and has been far more obsequious to Trump than his state would find ideal.  Plus, if he wins, he could probably have the job for as long as he wants it.

An independent senator from Utah would make some great maps

Probably, but McMullin would get a fair number of Dem votes against Hatch.

I would love a McMullin win.

Would he still caucus with Republicans?

If I were in Utah, McMullin would have my vote. Yes, I am a democrat, but voting for the democratic party on a state-wide level in Utah is wasting your vote. And between Hatch and McMullin, McMullin is way better. Plus I want someone new, Hatch has held that seat for too long. And just to be fair, I'm looking at you too John Conyers.

I'd take McMullin over any Republican from Utah.

Come on man, he is a Paul Ryan clone. He is just as bad as any Republican. Just because he is not a Trumpian fire breather, does not mean is not a right wing nut.

True, but he's the best of the worst.

The fact that he doesn't condone Trump is a plus. We need as much congressional opposition as possible.

Yes, but he'd still vote for the vast majority of Trump's nominees for the executive and judicial branches, making his "opposition" basically meaningless.

I agree that he's terrible but I wouldn't call him a Paul Ryan clone.

Can you name one issue on which they materially disagree? I can't comma though that may just be ignorance about McMullen.

I was going to say climate change, but apparently McMullin's position is "It exists, but we should ignore it" so never mind. He is a Paul Ryan clone. I guess I have a higher opinion of him now because he isn't currently doing any damage, but he would still be terrible if he got elected. Maybe a little better than the average Utah Republican though.

Hasn't he also been active in the #Resistance movement, too? Or am I wrong?
