Decertifying Moore and running a Strange write in campaign seems like the path forward for the GOP.

I have to imagine this could be their move.

It's their only way forward, but it's also their worst way forward. Vote-splitting will kill their chances once and for all.

Is a majority required?  Would there be a runoff if nobody got more than 50%?

We've got a Diaper Dave on the loose!

Question is, will Jones pull a (near) JBE on this? Or will he end up like the Conservadem in 2010 that tried the exact same strategy but was ultimately just a casualty of the Tea Party Wave?

Things just keep getting worse for the GOP.  This perv needs to drop out of the race.

This was said of Trump last year.

Well, I'm skeptical that anything will change. After Access Hollywood, everyone and their brother in republican politics wanted to make Pence the Presidential nominee, but Trump said he was staying in, pointed to some random Clinton accusers to distract, half-apologized, and threatened to Prosecute Hillary in front of 70,000,000 TV viewers at the 2nd debate. Two weeks later, all was forgotten and forgiven. There are more than two weeks left in this thing, and Alabunga is way more conservative than the country.

If the state GOP does decertify Moore and runs a write-in Strange campaign, does Strange win?

Look at who on the forum is calling for a Strange write-in a campaign and make an inference.

If Strange runs a write-in campaign, Jones wins the seat. There are enough delporables who are horrible enough to ignore the news and vote for Moore.

I'm not sure the situations are equivalent.  With Trump, the alternative was Hillary Clinton, who was anathema to Trump voters.  Jones is probably a lot more acceptable, or at least not unthinkable, to most AL Republicans.

I would assume that the split in the right-wing vote would allow Jones to win, but this is still Alabama after all.

I imagine this will hurt Moore somewhat, but not bearly as much as if he were found to have had consentual sex with a man the same age as him.

What was Doug Jones doing in 1979? What a great contrast that'd make for a campaign ad!

Alabamified:

"In 1979, Doug Jones was prosecuting violent felons to keep Alabamans safe. In 1979, Roy Moore was soliciting sex from a 14 year-old white girl."

It would actually be pretty amazing (in a Trump election/horrifying sort of way) if the Democrats tried to dogwhistle and imply that Roy Moore is black and preys on young white girls. I mean, how many people actually know what their candidates look like in a Senate race?

I love how it's always the "Shoot the gays" Family Values candidate who ends up being a disgusting perv. The wisest decision the RNC could do right now, especially since it is run by a woman, is to disavow Moore and to call him to step aside. It would look incredibly bad for them if they continued to back him.

Comey's letter also played a major factor, hopefully nothing like that happens to Doug Jones.

If the race is 50-40 right now for Moore that could flip it easily if Jones keeps his support

Does Alabama have run-offs for federal races?  Roby got less than 50% in 2016 and there wasn't a run-off.

Nope, it would make a Moore win even more likely (if that's possible) by splitting the sane vote.

I'm sure Moore's team is vigorously checking if Jones ever sent emails or ran a foundation right now.

No it can't. That last 10% will be impossible

If 15% goes for the write in its very possible, no run offs.

He's saying that Jones can win with his 40% if Strange runs a write-in campaign. Which is obviously true.

Awful thought:

Moore steps down.
Sessions resigns as AG to run a write-in campaign for his old seat and wins.
Trump appoints a new AG who's not recused from the Russia probe.
