In light of recent events, the endgame of my short-lived self-insert Jeff Jackson TL.

2017-2021: Donald Trump (R-NY) / Governor Mike Pence (R-IN)
2021-2025: Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) / Former Governor John Hickenlooper (D-CO)
2025-2029: Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) / Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)
2029-2037: Senator Jeff Jackson (D-NC) / Governor Danica Roem (D-VA)
2037-2041: Vice President Danica Roem (D-VA) / Secretary of HHS Emily Peebleton (D-NC)
2041-2049: Governor Aaron Seagull (R-NY) / Senator Austin Petersen (R-MO)
2049-2057: Senator Emily Peebleton (D-NC) / Senator Anna Byrd (D-WV)
2057-0000: Vice President Anna Byrd (D-WV) / Congressman Dan Kushner (D-CA)

Shamelessly ripped off some characters (namely Seagull, Byrd, and Kushner) from Spenstar's TL, but whatever.

Why would Dole sacrifice Kansas's EVs by selecting Kassebaum?

Uh, I forgot about that. But Dole could simply change his official homestate. Wouldn't be so unique: Cheney was registered in TX in 2000, before switching back to WY after W selected him for the VP slot.
He could register in DC, for example.

This all passes over the broader point that it would be an absolutely pointless VP pick.

Still, you'd likely be sacrificing New York's EVs (a similar point I made with Kassebaum in Mohamed's list).

Since this is an alternate timeline, it’s possible that Roosevelt holds office in a different state or that the voting system has been changed so that electors can vote for both candidates.

Again, it is still absolutely pointless. If you don’t know about any other politicians from the era, try Wikipedia. Smiley

In 1984, after winning re-election, Reagan abruptly announces the unification of the US and UK.

1. Ronald Reagan (1985 - 1990) / Margaret Thatcher (Conservative Republican)
2. Margaret Thatcher (1990 - 1995) / Dan Quayle (Conservative Republican)
3. Al Gore (1995 - 2005) / Paddy Ashdown (1995 - 1998), Tony Blair (1998 - 2005) (Democratic)
4. Tony Blair (2005 - 2010) / Mark Warner (Democratic)
5. Rick Perry (2010 - 2015) / David Cameron (Conservative Republican)
6. Ed Milliband (2015- present) / Barack Obama (United Labor)

Losing tickets:

1990
David Steel / Michael Dukakis (D)
Neil Kinnock / Roy Hattersley (Lab.)

1995
Dan Quayle / John Major (CR)
Labour did not run a candidate due to lack of appeal in America, death of presumptive nominee John Smith, fear of spoiler effect for Gore.

2000
William Hague / John McCain (CR)

2005
George W. Bush / Michael Ancram (CR)
Howard Dean / Robin Cook (UL)
One of the most controversial elections ever, as Blair came in third place in the popular vote of a tight three-way race, but still managed to gain an electoral college majority by winning in most of the close states, as well as defeating the two American-centric tickets in Britain. While they did win, Blair and the Democrats would never recover from the dramatic unpopularity that resulted.

2010
Harriet Harman / Bernie Sanders (UL)
Tony Blair / Hillary Clinton (D)

2015
Rick Perry / David Cameron (CR)
Nick Clegg / Susan Collins (D)

1893-1901: William Jennings Bryan*/Adlai Stevenson
1901: William McKinley**/Theodore Roosevelt
1901-1905: Theodore Roosevelt***/vacant
1905-1909: Theodore Roosevelt***/Charles Evan Hughes
1909-1917: Charles Evan Hughes****/Robert Todd Lincoln
1917-1922: James Cox[5]/Charles W. Bryan
1922-1925: Charles W. Bryan[6]/vacant
1925-1929: Charles W. Bryan[6]/Alfred Smith
1929-1933: Gov. Floyd Olson(D/P-MN)[7]/Rep. Henry Wallace(D/P-NY)
1933-1941: Fmr. Gen./Gov. Theodore Roosevelt Jr.(R-NY)/Sen. Hiram Johnson(R-CA)[8]

*Signed the sixteen-to-one silver:gold ratio of coinage that still exists today
**Assassinated
***Strengthened economic ties to Germany and Italy; created the Federal Bank, which centralized inflation/deflation and localized monetary supply
****Signed the Berlin Alliance with Germany, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, and Russia; President when the Great War began in 1910 who then intervened and successfully took the Yukon, Baja California, the Yucatán, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia
5: A strong supporter of the League of Nations, Cox also established the federal minimum wage at twenty cents an hour and made sure to tie it to the supply of silver and gold, as well as inflation
6: Bryan began staunchly supporting anti-trust laws, as well as signing into law the Norris-Johnson Work Week Act, limiting all work considered physical labor to nine hours a day, and, for railroads, eight hours a day.
7: Olson began by nationalizing banks, railroads, meat packing, some newspapers, and big agriculture, as well as federalizing police. He placed Upton Sinclair, Vito Marcantonio, Freda Kirchwey, Allan Benson, Emil Seidel, and a handful of others in charge of these. He cancelled free trade agreements with Russia(by 1930, a constitutional monarchy under Alexander IV, Vasily Maklakov, Alexander Kerensky, and Georgy Lvov), Germany, and France. Olson then proceeded to increase the minimum wage to $0.60 an hour, instate a five tier progressive income tax, and provide free meals nationally for the working and middle class. Combined with a forty hour work week, businesses publicly denounced Olson for ruining the economy. By January of 1932, unemployment was at 14.9% and inflation was at nearly seven percent. The stock market had crashed. Olson’s “People Before Business”/“Worker’s Deal” has failed.
8: Roosevelt pledged to reduce the centralization of the Federal Bank and privatize everything nationalized. By placing Nelson Rockefeller, Herbert Hoover, Frances Perkins, Mina Van Winkle, Colston Warne and others in charge of privatization, it was done within two years. The minimum wage was lowered to thirty cents, the free trade agreements reinstated, the progressive income tax went down to three tiers, and a basic welfare system for food and housing funded federally, administered locally, was set up. The work week was increased to a sixty hour work week.

28. Robert La Follette (Progressive-Wisconsin) 1913–1921
29. Eugene Debs (S-Indiana) 1921–1925
30. Calvin Coolidge (Republican-Massachusetts) 1925–1933†
31. Charles G. Dawes (R-Illinois) 1933
32. Huey Long (Socialist-Farmer-Labor-Louisiana) 1933–1941
33. Elmer A. Benson (SFL-Minnesota) 1941–1949
34. Henry Wallace (SFL-Iowa) 1949–1961
35. Richard Nixon (R-California) 1961–1969
36. George McGovern (SFL-Minnesota) 1969–1977
37. Ronald Reagan (R-California) 1977–1985
38. Bob Dole (R-Kansas) 1985–1989
39. Al Gore (Center-Tennessee) 1989–1997
40. Steve Forbes (R-New York) 1997–2005
41. Bernie Sanders (SFL-Vermont) 2005–2017
42. Tulsi Gabbard (SFL-Hawaii) 2017–present

†-died in office

In this scenario, as a result of the U.S.'s non-entry into WWI, and lack of "Red Scare", the Cold War never escalates to much, except for poor relations during the "conservative era" of 1977–2005. WWII occurs and has the same result. Today, the Baltic countries, Moldova, and Tajikistan are independent and the Soviet Union, while still existing, has held elections and has had market reforms.

The major parties today are the Socialist-Farmer-Labor Party, the Republican Party, and Center Alliance. The SFL originated in the early 1930s as a merger of the Socialist Party, Progressive Party, and Farmer-Labor Party. Most populist/New Deal type Democrats joined the SFL while the more conservative ones were allied with the Republicans, and the Democratic Party gradually dissolved, although they stuck around in Congress until the 1970s, mostly with support in the rural south and midwest.

2016 presidential election:

SFL: Tulsi Gabbard/Jeff Merkley (338)
Republican: Ted Cruz/Tim Scott (119)
Center: Brian Sandoval/Susan Collins (72)
Libertarian: Gary Johnson/Justin Amash (9)

For the record, it was the Secretary of State who ascended to the Presidency without a President or Vice President present, not the Speaker of the House, at the time of Borah's death in 1940.

Yeah, was the case between 1886 and 1947. Before, President pro tem and the Speaker were on the list (in that order) and then removed completely. At President Truman's request in 1947, they were included again the other way around and before the cabinet members under the Presidential Succession Act. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Succession_Act
