Wrong, this race is Safe R and Heitkamp has no chance of re-election. Democrats should just give it up now

More seriously, Cramer is the best GOP candidate but Heitkamp won in North Dakota with no incumbency advantage. She's fine.

Again, so did Cramer and with more votes. Barack Obama isn't on the ballot and Trump is fairly popular in ND.

Does Trump even have a 55% success rate at being faithful to his wives?

This race is still Likely Republican.

This race is still TITANIUM REPUBLICAN and Heitkamp will be thrown out by BIGOTS (sexual assault doesn't exist, abolish #MeToo) and the Democrats will LOSE 24 seats to the Republicans in the senate creating the largest republican majority in nearly 100 YEARS

She's constantly polling within 3% of Cramer, even in polls that show Trump at 60% approval in ND (likely higher than it actually will be among the electorate in November given his approvals were a mediocre 50% in PA-18)

How is this Likely R? You know she won in 2012 as a non incumbent despite Romney winning ND by 20, right? No one expected her to win in 2012, but she is clearly an incredibly strong candidate.

All I can say is that there are too many Democratic Senators from Republican-leaning states, and too many consistently through modern political history for a prediction to be built solely or even just mostly on a state's PVI. If Heitkamp could win in 2012, then 2018 should definitely be doable for her, particularly since she is an incumbent now.

I feel like anyone empty-quoting King Lear should state their own thoughts, because Lear has made it pretty clear that his predictions are based on nothing but "the polls were wrong in 2016," (yes, he really did - link) combined with what is clearly a very strong Republican bias that he hasn't acknowledged.

Doing some further research on this race, and it appears that the ND Dem Party is pulling out all the stops for 2018. Just a few weeks ago, the state SoS cleared for circulation the petitions of ballot measures to raise the state's minimum wage, overhaul the state's ethics laws, and legalize marijuana. If even one of these make it to the ballot, lots of potential benefit for Heitkamp.

Republicans think this is what the Trump base wants. I suspect they're probably right about that, though I think they do not understand how badly this plays among anyone who isn't part of that base, nor how small the Trump base really is.

Heitkamp is as impressive an incumbent as Cramer is an unimpressive candidate and a man with a foot always in his mouth, but this is a 63% Trump state. Heitkamp is obviously helped by how elastic the state is, but still I wouldn't be surprised if she lost.
