If Trump took the Traditional Path to the White House:

Basically if you told someone in 1989 that Trump would become President and a one termer as well someday this is what I would think his path would be

Secretary of Commerce: January 21st 1993- January 20th 1997

- Appointed by George HW Bush to serve as his Commerce Secretary after being reelected in 1992

- Leaves after Democrats take back the White House for the first time in 16 years with the win of President Ann Richards

Governor of New York: January 1st 1999- December 13th 2004

- Wins the Gubernatorial Office in 1998 as a populist Rockefeller Republican Type after voters in New York get tired of the Democrats after 6 consecutive terms

- Re-Elected in 2002

- Resigns after being officially voted in by the Electoral College on December 13th 2004

President of the United States: January 20th 2005- January 20th 2009

-  Wins the Presidential Election in 2004 after beating the more conservative candidate in the GOP primaries

-  Has a very difficult relationship with conservatives in Congress due to him being viewed as a Northeast liberal Republican rather than a Western Conservative one

- Eventually his troubles cause the party to be to divided in 2008 and cause the Republicans to lose the WH

1989: Ted Cruz, inspired by the Zodiac Killer, commits first murder in rural Texas.
1990: Cruz murders five more people this year while on break from University.
1991: Cruz graduates from Harvard University with 10 murders under his belt.
1992: Ted Cruz begins legal studies at Columbia.
1993: NYC goes into a frenzy over the 44 murders that have taken place in his time there, moves all of his guns near a homeless dude who is eventually charged with all 64 murders Cruz has committed. He is sentenced to death but escapes, living in Indonesia in luxury. Cruz pays for this with a slush fund to keep him quiet.
1994: Ted Cruz graduates from Columbia Law School and begins a clerkship with Antonin Scalia. Antonin Scalia dies of apparent suicide three months later. Congress passes a permanent gun bill (AWB+UBC) in the wake of the NYC serial killer. Clinton nominates Senator Joe Lieberman to the Supreme Court and uses his newfound political capital to push through a moderate UHC.
1995: Ted Cruz is hired by a high-paying law firm in Washington D.C. Senator Barbara Boxer is found dead in her office.
1996: Ted Cruz is busy with his job, so he only murders 5 people this years.
1997: Ted Cruz is assaulted by police after someone says he looks like a murderer the police are searching for. Gets several million after it is determined the accuser is mentally ill.
1998: Cruz announces his run for a seat in the Texas state legislature after the incumbent is murdered by a Black man (totally not just Cruz in blackface). He wins the election 56-41 and re-election later that year.
1999: State Representative Cruz delays moving into his office for several months while a secure basement is built underneath.
2000: Ted Cruz announces his run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas's 21st District. He wins 59-41. Al Gore narrowly wins the Presidency.
2001: Cruz meets 200 lifetime kills.
2002: Congressman Cruz is re-elected unopposed. A fire ignites a gas tank and blows up Cruz's old office.
2003: Cruz meets with Dick Cheney. They determine he can help the "cause" more by running for Governor of Texas instead of his VP.
2004: Representative Cruz is re-elected as George Bush and Dick Cheney win the Presidential election by a decent electoral vote margin and a popular vote lead of 5,000.
2005: Cruz resigns his office to become Director of the Office of Management And Budget along with becoming Senior Advisor to the Vice President. He is confirmed by the Senate 52-48 on party lines.
2006: Ted Cruz resigns his office to replace the resigning Lieutenant Governor and to run for Governor after Rick Perry dies while overseeing the Afghanistan withdrawal. He is chosen as the emergency nominee. He narrowly wins 49.6%-47.3%.
2007: Ted Cruz is sworn in as Governor of Texas. He signs legislation protecting the Governor from prosecution in office and signs a crime control bill with a provision establishing a statue of limitations. George W Bush dies in office of an apparent choking on food. Cheney narrowly passes a bill giving the President commutation powers over state charges, ostensibly to allow for easier commuting of drug sentences.
2008: This is the first year in the last two decades where Ted Cruz didn't murder anyone. Barack Obama defeats John McCain for the White House while Democrats take a Senate supermajority.
2009: The Governor's Mansion catches on fire and almost burns down. Cruz raises and gets $50,000,000 to restore it (also pockets 10%). Democrats pass single-payer healthcare, and Governor Cruz becomes a leading voice against it.
2010: Ted Cruz, despite being unpopular with moderates and liberals, is rabidly popular amongst the conservatives, and easily wins re-election as Republicans take a 224-211 House majority.
2011: Governor Cruz announces his run for the Presidency and signs a 6-week Abortion ban, saying "life is sacred and abortion is murder and murder is bad". Abortion ban is struck down by SCOTUS, which clarifies any bans before 24 weeks are unconstitutional.
2012: Ted Cruz narrowly loses the nomination to Mitt Romney who loses by a substantial margin to President Obama.
2013: Governor Cruz announces that he'll be running for a third full term. He also reaches 250 lifetime murders.
2014: Governor Ted Cruz is re-elected by a 54-44 margin over Bill White.
2015: Ted Cruz announces another bid for the presidency.
2016: Ted Cruz wins the nomination and wins the general election by a small electoral vote margin and losing the popular vote by 6,000,000.
2017: President Cruz is sworn in with a tied Senate and a 228-207 House majority. His approvals start underwater and reach 32% by the end of the year.
2018: The President faces a stunning rebuke in the midterms as he fails to get any of his agenda passed. Conservatives still like him since he blames all of his failures on obstructionism.
2019: A White House employee falls of the side of the roof. They moan 'Cruz' before dying.
2020: President Cruz has a 40% approval rating and a 16% favorability rating but since the economy is relatively good he looks to have a chance. COVID gets in his way but he avoids caution taken by the Democrats. 750,000 are dead by election day but the announcement of a vaccine and not suspending grassroots allow the President to secure a narrow electoral college win while losing the popular vote by 10,000,000 against Senator Kamala Harris.
2021: Deaths reach 1,300,000 by the end of the year, going down due to a vaccine rollout, although most of the people who got the vaccine also quarantined. Cruz vetoes additional stimulus to stop inflation and cuts the EPA budget by 80% to a mere $6,000,000,000. Scientists show that Climate Change is beginning to reverse due to Gore/Obama policies (emissions are 45% lower nationwide and 25% lower worldwide since both Cruz and Bush/Cheney lacked the supermajority in the Senate to remove them), and the drought in California is ended with near-continuous rain from late October to March of 2022.
2022: The FBI and Congress begin investigations into the President based off a tip. Midterms are brutal for GOP, which just eggs Congress on further.
2023: The Special Counsel announces that they may have found evidence linking President Cruz to a 1990 Murder. The evidence is compiled and released in December.
2024: Mass outrage as investigative services find links between Cruz and 278 murders over 35 years. Impeachment proceedings begin, although after a bill taking exclusive nuclear authority away from the President is passed over Cruz's veto the impeachment conviction fails 64-36, a near-party line vote.
2025: Ted Cruz leaves office to Jacky Rosen (recently elected in a massive landslide), who finds that days prior to her inauguration the President had invoked a little-known part of the 2007 Pardon Bill to grant himself immunity for all of the state and federal crimes. It is narrowly upheld by the Supreme Court.
2026: Ted Cruz named Lieutenant Governor by outgoing Gov. Roberts (30% of Republicans now believe Cruz was framed). Roberts then resigns. An amendment passed in 2008 by Gov. Cruz prohibits an impeachment of the Governor if they are in the final year of their term. In a 4-way race between a Liberal, Progressive, and Moderate following a brutal primary fight Cruz emerges victorious with 29% of the vote.
2027: Ted Cruz is sworn in as Governor of Texas. Democrats immediately begin impeachment proceedings. The GOP has a narrow majority and Cruz implemented a 70% impeachment threshold, so this is bogged down. By June, articles are introduced and by August a vote in the House is ready. It narrowly passes by a 118-30 vote. After tons of delays by Lt. Governor Roberts, the trial is held in January of 2028.
2028: Ted Cruz is removed from office on February 14 by a 25-6 vote.

Texas State Representative: July 11, 1998-January 1, 2001
U.S. Representative: January 3, 2001-February 27, 2005
