How many people are watching the debate total? Can’t see any way this does anything but hurt Beto

That is the one good thing about the debates, basically nobody will watch any of them, and the handful of people who do are already 100% going to vote and have made up their minds for the most part.

So as someone mentioned earlier, a lot of this is about getting soundbites out. On that note, Beto is doing a bit better than before, and has had some good soundbite moments in the last question or 2 that could get repeated on local news summaries of the debates.

Is Beto anti-police by the way, as Cruz claims?

Who do you think police officers in TX are supporting overall?

Do you think the sports teams owners (except for Spurs' ownership) are pro-Cruz?

Beto can't attack Cruz for representing special interests and corporations and then in the next statement where they praise one thing about the opponent, say that Cruz is doing what he believes is best for the country. By representing special interests and corporations, Cruz is doing what is best for them and not the country. The tax cut was an example of that. It hurt us by adding to the debt bigly, but helped corporations a lot by shoving lots of cash into their pockets.

Also, love how Beto didn't hit Cruz in the nice comment question, but Cruz used it to implicitly attack him for MUH SOCIALISM

OK, now THAT was a really good moment for Beto

"True to form"

Beto gives an honest answer to the question, and then Cruz does... what Cruz does...

That is something he needs to get into an ad.

Cruz can't even compliment O'Rourke without tossing in a shot about socialism and Bernie Sanders. What a bleeping tool.

Thankfully O'Rourke said, "true to form" and called him out on it.

Seriously, Ted Cruz is just the slimiest politician ever. I don't know how anyone could think he's sincere.

Waiting for the TRUE TO FORM ad. Shouldn't take too long to get it up on the air all over the place with Beto's huge fundraising haul.

This debate will be a wash overall, but my god was it a perfect showcase of how fake and deceptive Ted Cruz is.

What a slime ball.

Beto made a Punk Rock reference in the middle of the debate:

Cruz had a great debate until last question. I can't beleive he's that stupid. I mean even Trump managed to say something nice about Hillary without attacking her.

Trump actually had a really good response to that question.

He's slimier than the blobfish that he resembles:

That was Trump's only good response. It was actually better than Clinton's where she praised Trump for being a loving father with five bright kids. That was just objectively false!

It went pretty much how I thought, maybe Cruz outperformed a little. I noticed O'Rourke always seems to have a scowl while Cruz is answering a question, I don't know if it's actually a scowl or if that's just how his face looks in the light, but he could work on looking a little more cheerful. Cruz was clearly prepared to defend conservative positions and did well though I did get the sense he wasn't totally honest two or three times. Advantage Cruz.

So any verdicts yet from the MSM and accepted non-partisan political pundits and experts on Texas Politics?

True, many Texas Voters won't actually watch the debate, but will read about it in their local newspapers, see some clips on their local news channels, read coverage of it in larger Texas websites, etc....

Well, I agree. But I mean it's Trump. He did gave a better answer than Hillary. But Hillary didn't attack him either. Like Cruz did tonight.

Lol, declaring winners in political debates is pointless unless one of the candidates committed a huge gaffe (which neither did tonight).

If anything, this debate only served to increase Beto's name ID.

Neither candidate seemed to really screw up or lose their footing.

Beto probably needs better than just a draw to win the race, but debates (especially at this level) seem more about not losing than they do winning, so it's not that big of a deal.

"True to form", Cruz did **** up there at the end. Curious if the margin will continue to narrow in the coming weeks.

Well, I didn’t watch the debate yet but even if he really won it, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee victory. Remember 1988 with the « Senator you’re no Jack Kennedy » episode that didn’t stop the Bush/Quayle from winning in a landslide. And even Hillary Clinton was reported to have won all the 3 debates against Trumpin 2016, but she surprisingly lost the election to Trump by 74 electoral votes.

The debate IMO was a draw. Beto stood his ground but Cruz is an excellent and experienced debater. Regardless, this debate serves no purpose other than to increase Beto's name rec., and Beto knows that. No wonder Cruz didn't want many debates and wanted them on fall friday night's IIRC.
