Schmucky is speaking on the Senate floor regarding Gorsuch.  Watch it for the lols.

Mitch is going to be finishing off the Heist soon.

I suspect he is filing his mug with La Colombie free trade organic coffee, almond milk, and salty liberal tears.

May I ask a question?

Why do you hate your political opponents so much? It really doesn't seem healthy or normal in a country at peace, even one as polarized as America.

There are a number of Democratic hack posters I could ask this of as well, but they tend not to be as blatant or deliberate about it as you are.

Angus King is a NO on Gorsuch for nomination and cloture. Every Senator now accounted for in terms of how they will vote on cloture.

I'd love to hear an honest answer from him, but I think it is more likely that he is just trying to piss people on this forum off. The amount of time he has spent doing that here speaks volumes. What kind of person devotes, what, is it, years now? to just trolling people his disagrees with?

Shame, really. Krazen seems smart, but instead just acts like a vindictive dick who is obsessed with filling jars with liberal tears than having any sort of decent discussion (unless you're a conservative, in which he'll be respectful)

I haven't been following this terribly closely, but when the cloture vote fails, is it thought that the "nuclear" vote (to abolish SCOTUS filibusters) will be along party lines?  That is, will even Dems like Manchin, who opposes this particular filibuster, vote with the Dems to preserve the filibuster?  And will all of the Republicans vote to go nuclear?

With the guarantees from McConnell and most recently, Grassley, I'd say they've literally whipped every one of them into favoring a nuke.

He's said that he will vote for nuclear option if Democrats use the filibuster.

1800. 1860. 1954.

1954 was on the heels of a landslide Republican victory ending 20 years of Democratic Presidencies, with many states flipping. I'm not sure what exactly you are referring to with 1800 (I can think of a few things that happened then, none of which really point to such vicious division). In strictly geographical terms, the polarization of today may only be matched by 1860, which is a troubling thought.

Weren't we still incredibly politically polarized post civil war until 1896 when the GOP finally gave up on reconstruction and became the dominant Party all the way up til 1930/1932?

I could be completely wrong on my history though.

The polarization continued long after the Civil War, though my impression is that it wasn't nearly as hot an issue after that point, though the South remained in Democrats' hands for another century. I may also be mistaken on this, though.

America's parties remained extremely polarized on all levels up until the 1920s or just after. 1896 brought about a whole new level of extreme geographic partisan polarization not seen since the days of Jackson, which continued for something like three decades. The parties started depolarizing during the 1920s, with the South starting to adopt the economic ideas of the Republican party around then. The Hoover-Smith race in 1928 further helped depolarize America. See Sean Trende on this.

Of course, most of the ideological depolarization took place with the Great Depression, and most of the geographical depolarization took place in the aftermath of the New Deal.

Not even close as Dems who started it all and are now whining about the other side doing the same. Well, there's an old German saying: What you don't want anyone to do with you, don't do it to someone else.

The only thing I'm wondering is how all these Dem Senators or people like Joe Biden can lie without any shame - while knowing that they created the problem and are the only ones to blame for.

Oh really? Did you know that Stephen Breyer was nominated to the 1st circuit in November 1980, and confirmed in December 1980? Very Nice!

This was after Jimmy Carter was thrashed in the 1980 elections. Ted Kennedy and company did not return the favor.

Look, it's obvious that we're never going to come to an agreement here, but I find it a bit disconcerting that you can't see how your party is just as hypocritical as mine when it comes to this issue.

At least I can admit as much.

You can point to your examples of when Democrats obstructed Republican judicial appointments, and I can point to my examples of when Republicans obstructed Democratic judicial appointments. Where exactly does it get us?

This is just the natural escalation of things.

Of course, most of the ideological depolarization took place with the Great Depression, and most of the geographical depolarization took place in the aftermath of the New Deal.

As someone else said, it is probably the case that depolarization won't occur again until one party undeniably gains more support than the other long-term, rather than this split we have right now (ok, it's not an even split but still). Personally I think such an event is likely within the next decade or so, and it definitely won't be a continuation of the conservative era we've been living under for for generation(s) so far.

False as usual. They are a pretty much a liberal/libertarian state and Clinton barley won it. Bernie would of won in by double digits.

Brown v Board. Eisenhower had to send goddamn soldiers to an elementary school to prevent mobs from lynching innocent little children. Montgomery was exploding over the bus boycott.  Redline race riots in chicago. A few years later They bombed fricken choirgirls at church on sunday morning in Alabama. My dad remembers the impeach earl warren billboards (along with the occasional hang earl earren). The 50s and 60s were more divisive than now.

Colorado has one of the highest amount of young people as a %, Marijuana is legal & they identify with many of Bernie's policies ! To say they voted for voted for Bernie because they hated Clinton is untrue.

In that way people hated Romney & his 47% comment, people hated Pail as VP & McCain's warmongering & clueless nature. By that logic no candidate has even won a positive vote. Every candidate wins by his positive & opponent's negative - To say otherwise is flat out untrue !
