The video of her appearance is on Youtube now, though it’s split up into four parts (I think this is the right order):

I don't mean to sound sexist or anything, but there is just something about her voice that I think might turn people off. Warren, Clinton, Klobuchar, Gabbard, and Harris all have deeper and more serious sounding voices while Gillibrand's has almost a bubbly quality.

This is someone who genuinely concerns me, if I'm concerned about the GOP keeping the White House

This is also someone I think I could maybe vote for.

I said before that she needed a voice coach, she sounds like a 12 Y/O girl.

Welp, this thread is certainly a beautiful demonstration of gender's role in politics. Smiley

She comes across as a bubbly teacher which I don't think is a negative here. If anything it would be helpful.

She sounds so much better than Hillary, more authentic, energy etc. She shouldn't run in 2020 as we need a strong progressive.

She has a very bright career though, atleast VP if not the POTUS !

Its the subconscious cultural baggage of society, unfortunately. Everyone has it, and it makes women get judged harshly for subtler voice things.

If you recall one of the main problems with Clinton (and Warren) is that they have screechy voices, which they do. Gillibrand has a good voice and so does Gabbard.

Depends on how you're defining the term. She's definitely on the left half of the Democratic Party. But she's done a few things like supporting PIPA (which Brown, Franken, etc. also did) that can be reasonably be used to argue that she isn't a "strong" progressive. And of course she was much more moderate in the House, although given that she's now to the left of Schumer, it's clear that she was moderating for her district, rather than moving to the left for the state as a whole.

Overall I'd say she'd be one of the better potential candidates as long as she isn't solely a "women's issues" candidate (I obviously hope that she is a strong advocate for women but campaigns that are entirely based on that rarely work).

I know that one criticism of her from the left is about her being too friendly to Israel.  The other one I hear is that she takes a lot of campaign $ from Wall Street.  But no one's ever walked me through the question of what specific policies she advocates on financial reform that Wall Street is getting in exchange for those contributions.
