-from a red state
-has experience running in a tough election as the Democratic nominee for North Dakota Senate, district 5 in 2014
-is apparently a custodian at Minot State University; can appeal to the white working class while still doing well among college-educated voters

I think he might be the candidate the Democrats are looking for in 2020.

Ha. Probably not. The reason why I put Thompson on the list in 2020 is because Democrats look bitterly divided. He'd be a good compromise candidate. He was a city comptroller. He knows the economy, and he is moderate and sane.
