As we know, the Rust Belt made Trump president, so how is he doing in the Rust Belt so far?

In the first week, Trump has order construction of the wall at the Mexican border, increase in border patrol officials, and banning of immigrants from Muslim country.

None of those are likely to affect the Rust Belt in any significant way.

I hate to say it, but he's doing a pretty good job of solidifying his support among Rust Belt voters.

He killed the TPP, he keeps talking about renegotiating NAFTA, he's very vocal about punishing companies who plan on moving overseas, he made a "deal" with Carrier to keep jobs in the country, he's taking credit for every new factory being built in the US, he signed an EO on the DA and KS pipelines, and he's had some very productive meetings with Union leaders.

This should scare Democrats.

The Democrats really need an all out public relations campaign in the Rust Belt. Having an article on the Huffington Post disputing Trump's claims about bringing jobs back is only preaching to the masses, the message has to be tailored for the Rust Belt in order to keep them from being solidified in the Trump column.

The openning will be during the next recession though the hiring freeze can't be good PR.

Until polling comes out who knows. Sure he got out of Tpp but the Muslim ban and crowd argument drown it out

There are a few national polls that do regional breakdowns.  E.g., Morning Consult polled Trump’s job approval just in the first couple of days after his inauguration (Jan. 20-22), and found 46% approve, 37% disapprove nationwide.  But regional breakdown was:

Midwest:
approve 47%
disapprove 35%

Northeast:
approve 41%
disapprove 39%

South:
approve 48%
disapprove 36%

West:
approve 45%
disapprove 40%

For 2020, we might need to look at Trump's approval rating in each region rather then his overall approval rating.

He could, for example, get blown out in the West while winning the EC on his strength in the Midwest.

In less than 2 weeks?  It sounds like the left has an obsession with their president doing bad all of a sudden.  Why not root against Obama?

They hoped he would fail.
