One of the few good things to come out of this administration.

Good, I would agree with this bill. The Hyde Amendment should be made permanent.

States have always had the option to fund abortion with their own funds and this doesn't change that, this affects only the money that is spent directly by the federal government.

The first paragraph has been a rider in every yearly budget since '76, this actually puts it in law so we don't need to keep passing it every year. The second paragraph is new stuff.

There are a lot of things that I find morally repulsive that get paid with my taxes, why should abortion be any different?

Hopefully whenever the Democrats get back control this will be one of the first things they repeal.

The filibuster for legislation will never be repealed, and trifectas with 60 senate seats basically never happen. And even then you would need dems to completely united against Hyde, which isn't even close to being true as of now

Hyde is here to stay. Deal with it.

Meh. Im fine with making Hyde permanent but don't agree with penalizing private insurers for choosing to cover it.

I like how you avoid the first question, regardless repealing the Hyde Amendment is now rightfully the official policy of the Democratic Party. It will happen some day in the future God willing.

Yes, I wonder why "pro-life" conservatives are so okay with state-funded child killing in the Middle East, but are so vehemently opposed to it here? Something something all lives matter though.

The answer to the first question is obvious. Many things are morally repulsive, but only abortion kills our most innocent.

I think we should stop doing that.

There are a million reasons you can use to justify pro-life positions, 999,999 of which are better than this.

Except it isn't obvious. Abortion is a legal medical procedure, nothing more, nothing less, and it should be treated as such under law.

Passed the House 238-183. Lipinksi, Peterson, and Cuellar were the only Dems to support it. No Republican defected.

Democrats could totally do better in Lipinkisi and Cuellar's districts.

What is the chance that this would get past a Senate filibuster?

I thought Bishop would have supported it.

I think abortion should be banned completely with the exception of life of the mother and rape + incest, but this is a good start.  God bless those 3 good remaining Democrats.  We can see some new hope coming in with this new Congress and President that we can respect life.
